tried it on a 733mhz pc and toshiba 300mhz laptop with same results so not sure what I am doing wrong here anyone have any tips would be appreciated cheers.

USB is currently in developement (http://msaros.blogspot.com/). Yes, it's a PITA to install and there is bounty that has been setup to solve the issues. I'm not happy about AROS installer issues either. :-(

mmm now it worked.. I loaded it.. so what does this os do? It does nothing.. Directory Opus.. so? Where is mozilla? And wi-fi?
-
Are you joking ? Where is Mozilla for OS4 or MorphOS ?
To learn more about AROS, read this:
http://aros.sourceforge.net/
If you want to try some Programs, look here:

Check the archives (http://archives.aros-exec.org/) for apps an such. Play MP3, go create stuff with lunapaint, use EUAE for your Amiga apps. AROS is still a Work In Progress (WIP). If your expecting a shiny OS with all the bells and whistles, your going to be disappointed for a bit longer as alot of items are in developement. It's saving grace, it's not costing you a penny for the past, current, and future developement plus AROS is open source. How much more do you expect?

Yea, AROS is still pretty green. The core os its self is pretty solid and mature at this point. What's needed is drivers and apps ( and a better installer! ). Aros is far from dead though, the developer mailing list is rocking.
The average user probably won't find aros that interesting but keep checking back every 6 months or so, eventually you will find it in a state thats quite useable.
A descent browser port would probably increase the aros community by a factor of 10 in a short ammount of time, and it's only a matter of time until that happens.

come back in, lets say... 30 years... then maybe there is a mozilla beta 0.9b(still no css?). the wi-fi i guess you must wait another 30 years, becouse its more important to port aros to Efika(new ppc hw for morphos) first, than port important applications and function to the x86 version of aros...

You could say the same about OS4. Until it gets a modern browser and office suite, it'll continue its long, slow slide into oblivion.
-
long? slow?

You want me to pay for something this useless?
-
yes but then you pay in a bounty... and be sure to pick the most useless bounty ;-)

Are you just trolling :-?
AROS is free and does't pretend to be anything it isn't.

Some people like it enough they are willing to give up some of their hard earned cash to encourage the developers along.

How could I be possibly using it? For what?

Well, you can view jpgs on it, so you could use it to view your porno.

Without a browser?

Let's hope that a moderator will close and lock this thread. The guy is obviously too lazy to research AROS and is just trying to bait people into an argument.

What should I research? The OS lacks a browser.. what do you expect people do without even a browser? Luna Paint? Gimme a break! Do you know photoshop??
-
well your obviously on the wrong site then. AmigaOS and its spwans still do not have a usuable browswer by todays standards. stop trolling, you are not even interested in a sensible discussion......
quick I think I hear your mother calling you for cuddle
-
hell yeah!... do people even know what photoshop is around here?... port photoshop to aros please :-D
-
You want me to pay for something this useless?
First of all, you pay nothing, it's free. Second, if you do not like, don't use it, simple as that.

I want to use it but the OS is simply unusable. period.
-
I'm having a hard time trying to figure out which thread is the most hopeless: Mac vs PC, or this one.
I'm tilting towards the latter.
-
Your understanding of what as OS is outstanding. The OS is very usuable. There are just not many applications for it at the moment. A browser is not part of a Operating System.
I do not even use AROS, but your realling getting on my nerves, and I would imagine also the nerves of people who have worked long and hard to get AROS where it is.
How about you write your own mulit-platform OS from scratch.
I would expect you have trouble writing your own name wihtout help.

From the install doc (http://aros.sourceforge.net/documentation/users/installation.php):
"AROS is alpha quality software. This means that it is currently mostly fun to play with and cool to develop for. If you came here because you thought AROS was a finished, complete and fully usable operating system, you will most likely be disappointed. AROS isn't there yet, but we're slowly moving in the right direction."
I don't understand why he's acting all surprised. Maybe the above is a clear evidence that he probably is an computer-illiterate troll.

This is exactly what I'm saying.. it seems people here doesn't understand it instead.
-
AROS is whatever YOU make of it.
I'm not a developer or programmer and I am not expecting AROS to be a complete OS with all needed apps ready to go.
instead, I use it for fun ideas.
I have been able to copy the lite version onto a flash drive which means I can show it to anyone who happens to have a computer with a USB port. If you think THAT accomplishment is Nothing, you really have NO imagination!
I play around with LunaPaint - as an artist I happen to find that fun. sorry if you don't.
there's plenty of issues with AROS that annoy me, but I know it's not a finished OS, it's for fun and learning and trying out things. For that it great. and as people keep adding more features and solve more problems, it gets better.
Personally, I LOVE having an OS on a Flash drive. But that's my little happiness! :-D

Hi,
I had no problems whatsoever installing AROS.
I burnt the AROS CD and installed it on a 6 year old Dell Dimension 4100.
The computer is equipped with a USB mouse with a PS 2 adapter. No issues there.
I was able to browse thru the OS, open samples, run them. Nothing crashed. Nice experience. No problems.
For an individual like me, who knows NOTHING about AROS and very little about Amiga OS, it was easy and straightforward.
I suppose there are compatibility issues with some hardware and that's to be expected.

Isnt Chrizz the A.. Dude, that came with this thread..
"Every other OS is dead, that isnt Vista"
I think it was him... So his only a "Troll" on this page...
Just block his IP... And we wont see him again.. :)
To the AROS People... Youre doing a fine job... I've tested
AROS and can't use it, for nothing, but to play with... :)
And thats ok... Would love to use it, wenn it as a final
version... Is sooooo cool what you are doing... Love it...
Cheers René

Now at times like this when the trolling begins to upset people, I often think its worth regressing to a lower mental state to try to understand where the troll is coming from. Hang on....
Duh !!! I'm ready :-o
Now maybe we can do a comparison on the benefits and usefulness of AROS versus Chrizz ?
Here are a few starters:
1. People here like AROS. Chrizz ??
2. AROS will one day be useful. Chrizz ??
3. AROS is open sourced and freely available. Chrizz is too scared to even put his country on his sig.
OK. I've got that off my chest. Its better to let these things out when they occur, else massive internal damage may ensue.
Time to elevate mental processes to normal level
Chrizz: Thanks for waking people up, but please refrain from upsetting people with your constant childish remarks.
Right, the rest of you can have a :pint: with me, but I guess the law would prevent me offering one to Chrizz

I installed AROS on an old Pentium II laptop.
This laptop struggled with Windows 2000 (as you might expect) but is extremely responsive with AROS. Not to mention booting in a fraction of the time.
A modern internet browser would be great. I would likely use it as my main OS then.
Keep up the good work AROS devs!

Yep, that's the same guy, check out his comment history (http://www.amiga.org/search.php?action=showallbyuser&mid=6&uid=15131). No reason to waste any more time his posts from now on.
