What do you think about the price of the Amiga one?
To be honest i think that is quiet expensive for a machine with no certain future and limited software availiable for it. I am really interesting into buying one but on the other hand i believe that it is a risk.

it might cost more than yer average computer, but it is a hobbiest machine! people will be prepared to pay more!
(as the fun goes up so to does the cost) ;-)

I believe that with that approach the whole project will fail. How many software houses will want to produce software for a limited market. I think that the company has not a clear business plan on who their customers will be.

I remember once spending over £100 on a 32MB simm, and ppc accelerators cost £700+ when they first appeared. While in relation to the average motherboard they are expensive (although average motherboards are dirt cheap, really) I think the price of the AmigaONE is both acceptable and understandable. Being an amiga (and please, no comments about it being a rebadged Teron board, that isn't accurate at all), I would happily pay the price and more.

probably the main reason for the (reletivly)high price tag, are the low numbers of production

And so few to absorb the R&D. Customers ultimately cover that too.
In 1989 I paid $2000 dollars for an A2000 with 1 meg. chip ram, No hard drive (remember how much extra Amiga HD controller cards were than x86s?) I paid $500 more to get a 1084 monitor. (The 1084S would have cost another $50.) +6% tax.
500UKP = $1130
The priciest x86 boards are $300 (not talking Itanium boards, or dual cpu.)
Plus some import duties to Canada.
Premium = $800+. Expensive, but I have paid more in the past.
Before the Imacs, to get involved with rock bottom Macs it was $3000+. What's that now, only about 3 years ago??
AmigaOne! I've tried some of the competitors, and none come close.

It is high but then again i bought a blizzard ppc card that cost £350 +blizzardvision graphics card another £160 or a bit more cant remember now .so its not that bad . ;-)

Its price is high because of the relatively small production run.
What risks are there that you are bothered about? Even if the Amiga market bombs the Linux market is still there ( aside from SCOs attempt to destroy it ). I think it is a better plan than when I bought my first Amiga, that had no certain future cos everyone was buying C64s, Atari STs and Spectrums.
Price? Still cheaper than traditional big box Amigas (its a "big box Amiga" ) but obviously more expensive than a PC for little value add.
You pays your money, you takes your choice.

It all makes me want to build a honkin' Athlon system, throw in a CatWeasel MK3, load Win98se on it, change shell=explorer.exe to shell=winuae.exe and be done with it!
