What lib is the best to use? it is confusing as dates do not match version numbers!!!!
The 060 library os3.9 installs is version 46.15 and is dated 10/05/2001
also there is the 46.7 version by phase5 that is dated 10/16/1999 ... 2 years older but with higher version number...
any info on that? :-?
-
15 is > 7, although I have no idea what's suggested.
-
This is not the same library, so comparing version numbers is pointless.
If you use phase5 hardware, use the phase5 libraries.
-
yes, I use a MK2/060 and a 060csppc, so Piru, I must use the 1999 p5 library , correct?
and 46.70 is greater than 46.15 ... it is 46.70 not 46.07 ....

Yes.

Nope. Version and revision numbers are separate, it's isn't a decimal number. 46.7 is not equal to 46.70.
-
so Piru, the libs on DJBase's unofficial g-rex site are wrong? because they install the 46.15 version ... ?
thanks for the revision clear-up, I just treated versions are normal numbers...
-
Version numbers are definitely confusing.
Look at where the "decimal" point is. (I know it's not a decimal number, but many users confuse it with one).
.15 is smaller than .7
It would be okay if everyone stuck with this, but different developers see it different ways.

@lurkist
Libraries always use separate version and revision.

No. You forget that these are different libraries. This 46.15 provided with the "Libraries_2.2.lha" is the phase5/dce one.

[EDIT] Hmm just reading the message again. You're saying AmigaOS 3.9 installs this particular library? I somewhat doubt that... IIRC H&P AOS (3.5, 3.9) didn't provide or install any 3rd party libraries. [/EDIT]
-
maybe u are correct about the 3.9 060 lib, I used the emergency disk and manually copied the 46.15 lib there, so I guess it was copied with the OS too...
still it is nice to find that 46.15 is the latest and sure lib to use, thanks!
-
There is no 68060.library included in OS3.9. It is copied from your existing install when you create an emergency floppy and then copied to the new install when you run the installer.
-
Right, so in this case both libraries were the same series after all (p5), and comparing version numbers is ok.
I do remember some other 68060 libraries though (at least 2 other than the p5 ones). Can be a bit confusing at times.. ;-)

Version numbers for software are not like decimal fractions. 46.7 is read as Version 46 revision 7. Similarly, 46.15 is Version 46 revision 15. The decimal point/full stop is simply a convenient separator - like the / in dates or the '-' in this sentence. So, in the case of software version numbers, 46.15 > 46.7.

What do you think about Thor's 68060.library - is it recommended over phase5 one?
-
I use the thor ones with my csppc. They seem to work fine for me. They use the mmu.library instead of manually setting up the mmu etc, and also they allow for vmm (like with memory.library - although you would need to write your app to support this). You may need to run p5integrate also (Supplies undocumented p5 calls for mmulib 68040/060 libraries)
-
As I'm also using CSPPC, I'm not sure if p5integrate is required, I thought it was for BPPC?
Do you think there is any difference regarding performance/compatability (other than MMULib "compliancy"?)
-
I am using the top archive from the http://phase5.a1k.org/index.php?driverslibraries site. Are the Thor ones a better option? i wouldnt mind having better MMU support. I haent installed any mmu.library or anythign else other than the WarpUP package on the 3.9 CD and the Warp3D stuff from the Elbox MMCD.
-
These are the latest Phase5 060 libs.

It's the only option if you look for actively supported software. Phase5 is bankrupt since a long time, they will no longer update or bugfix anything.

Is there a single archive to install his libs? If not can you help with a list of what to get for a CSPPC? For some reason I thought only the Phase5 ones worked properly all these years on these boards.

Read the Documentation CAREFULLY! If you use a CybervisionPPC Gfx-card, you need some special advice! the Monitor-file must be edited with a HEX-Editor. There are two entries in the Monitorfile calling the 68060.library. This entries must be changed from 68060.library to p5emu.library
