No, not A500, A-500.
This is my model of 500, and from what I've seen of 500s being sold, it's kinda rare. Is there anything special about it? Mine's from 1990, to set a starting point.
I'm going to venture a guess that it was the last revision of the 500 made before the 500+.

Open it up and take a look at the motherboard... that should let you know if it's any different or if it's just a new case badge...
It's been a while since I've seen an A500, so I don't recall whether it said "A500", "A-500" or even "Amiga 500" on it. Do you have two side by side to verify they are different or pictures perhaps?

i have a 500 that looks similar to the 500+ but is not
i once had(ok, still do, but its in pieces)an A500 with the commodore logo against a dark background, as a square
now i have one with the wider logo, that has a light back, and dark front, with the silvery c= logo
is that what you are talking about???

I think that's the one. It's just like the 500+ badge, only without the "Plus"
