Sweet! :-D

Trying it out now! WOOHOO!

The best news of the century!
Thanks a lot :-)

Tomas wrote:

Typing this from IB2.4 right now :-D
The improvements seem to be many, for example...the "quote" and smileys work here now and I can even logon to bay ;-)
Havent noticed any big speed improvements compared to IB2.3 yet (running an A4000, Cyberstorm MKIII 060 50mhz, Mediator, Voodoo 3000)
-
It's definitely quicker on my 060. Not 100% sure I was using the 060 version of 2.3 though (was there one?)
Demo supports multiple windows which will make it easier to evaluate. Tabbed browsing is cool. Haven't really tried any heavy sites; time will tell :-) Has anybody tested the Flash plugin? It doesn't work with YouTube :-(

OH YEAH! Why isn't this as news on front page? And big news too :) \o/ Happy happy joy joy!
-
Christmas came three days early. 2.4 kicks *ss! Using it now. MUCH better. Yippee!
Javascript is a LOT faster. Huge difference on ebay, msn and yahoo
-
So you're gonna pay for a modern browser that has NO layer support at least ??
You're pathetic guys!!
No surprise many amigans left the amiga; only fanatics like you pseudo-amigans remained.
That's, oh SO SAD !!! :-(
Merry Xmas anyway (NOT for IB 2.4 being out, I mean).
-
I tried to order 2.4 update but when I was supposed to pay via paypal
I got page in some strange germanic language without any idea what I'm
supposed to do. I clicked something and I don't know what happened
because everything was in German :?
-
Just bought it myself thru paypal. I also got the german paypal site. But I just entered my paypal login and next page was in english.
-
Damn $75 USD?

Hey, Yo - go away little boy, learn some manners before you post.
Better yet, don't post, or go somewhere you a) want to be and b) you are wanted (or cared about, or even noticed).
Enought time wasted on the troll.
@everone above the mental age of three
This is great news, I only bought ib2.3 two days ago (upgrade from v1.0), and already an update - at this rate we could be on 2.6 by the new year!
Oooh! New buttons! An option to open a new browser in the background, whilst keeping the current one active!
Flash as a plugin - not a seperate program!
Yippee! :-)
-

So what? You "bought" a PC with no multitasking support and no one is faulting you for that.
-
@pVC
Why isn't this as news on front page?
It is. ;-)
-
Got it finally done and using IBrowse 2.4 now. I got pink toolbar but copied new images over original toolbar gfx and it works correctly now.
-
Happy 2.4 !!!
Lets hear more about it (and less trolls) please :-D
-
but 55 Eur is too expensive for a browser with some limitation..
-
Anybody else getting errors about missing javascript.library? I don't know why since "version javascript.library" returns a version number :-?

Quit IBrowse, Do a "avail flush" in a CLI, reload it.

yep, had that error here on my A4000 (os3.9) but after fiddling with some ibrowse settings the error message dissapeared... :-o
-
Using it now, very good.
Thanks IB team.
The demo seems very good, after Christmas, I think I shall but it.
-
regarding javascript...
I got that to, then looked at the documentation, and
did a reboot as recomended.
Then it went away.
-
Yes this is great news, but a shame yahoo.co.uk does not look any diffrent...But anyways i have all my fonts sorted on 2.3 so how do i go about changing over to 2.4?
Cheers.
-
@Gav - The update should preserve all your prefs (did here anyway, as far as I've noticed). It may be worth making a backup of your ibrowse2.3 progdir before updating just to be certain.
@Moto - had the same error - as with the others it went away after a reboot.
-
Hi
Ok well for some reason when i did the install it created another folder in the ibrowse directory..So i just copied over my ibrowse prefs file, will that be ok?
Thanks

Try and see, your Amiga won't blow up ;-)
-
Oh yeah i did try it and all seems fine but i was just making sure..Ok i have a small question here, when i first got ibrowse2.3 a few yrs back ebay looked the same on my amiga as my pc..
Then after sometime ebay looked gray looking with menus down the side..What is ibrowse 2.4 missing to support a page like ebay/yahoo.co.uk?
-
@ Gav
That's CSS support, supposedly coming in IB3.0.
@ experts
Could someone tell me what's so great about CSS that everyone is adding it to their websites? I fail to see the point. It doesn't seem to offer much other than failing to work in low-end browsers.
-
@Matt
Ah right i see,cheers..
-

It makes web design easier. I.e. one can change look of all web pages on portal only by changing css file.

I'm not an expert, but the benefits are manyfold; it's a more logical and consistent way of marking up text, you can make changes to your template (style sheet) and it automatically propogates through all the pages, saves you having to go through and edit everything. You can choose a different style sheet depending on your presentation needs... (Compare that with defining constants in a program versus going through and changing one value every time it appears.)
It also makes it a lot easier to place elements where you want them on the page, instead of relying on a contrived nest of tables to do the same job.

@ itix & NoFastMem
Hmmm... Fair enough, I suppose, but wasn't there a similar way to do this in the past that wasn't a nightmare for Amigas and PDAs?
-
Couldn't all that that css functionality be handled better by standalone software rather than by changing the standard?
-

It does not change the standard. In fact it stops web designers abusing HTML standard and CSS is designed in a way it allows viewing page even when your browser does not support CSS. They just look dull.
Lack of CSS support is only tip of the iceberg. Modern browser should also support XML.
-

The same could be done using PHP scripts, I guess.
-

What flash plugin? The plugin directory is empty. Did i miss something?
-
Me too!!
I am very happy.. becouse are good Chrismas Gift!!...for all Amiga Users!..

For now.. its great Know about new Release of Ibrowse!.. and have many Improves!...
Thanks to the Ibrowse Team and Congratulations for this new

Best Regards

-

Is IBrowse 2.4 worth 55 euro? Well we dont have any better alternatives yet. But maybe it will be worth it to help motivate the IBrowse team into finishing v3.0.
-
Worth every penny, imo. A more capable browser on the Amiga means less times I have to resort to using a PC with internet exploiter just to view certain badly behaved but essential (for me, anyway) websites. i.e. Now with the Amiga I can log onto fidelity.com --spoofed as ie7.0-- check acct., even execute trades. No more switching to the PC to do expense reporting in concur; works great on the Amiga now. And on and on. Its a huge, much needed upgrade. No quibbling here over the price. They're earning their money.

Easy, it's called the KISS principle.
HTML was expressly designed for "content not presentation", and the Madison Avenue types have been trying to subvert it ever since. We don't NEED all this useless glitz and eye candy to do what were doing on the WWW, but a lot of people are making money crapping it up.
KISS example:

IBrowse is a bit slower compared to AWeb at least when visiting Amiga.org.
-
I'm posting with it right now, from A4000T 060, not bad....
8-)

Aminux wrote:

I have to report quite the opposite. I'm on a 4000D, CS MKIII 060, 128MB, PIV in 1024x768 24-bit.
I pitted IB2.4demo v AWeb APL. I'm using all WarpDT image datatypes. That might be the difference, as I'm not sure which program uses what decoders.
The gf is looking for another Christmas gift for me... :-)

Yes. IMO CSS is pointless. When I'm desgning a web site/web app I have a 'header' file which includes all of the font styles, table styles etc etc, and the body tag. This file is included in every other page by adding the line "require('header.php') to the top of each script. This makes every page look the same.
There is no CSS in this script. I define variables in header.php such as '$table', which would contain a value like "", or "". Then when I want to create a table or a piece of text I just echo $table or $font first to make sure it looks the same as all the other tables and text.
If I want to change the look of the whole site, I just edit header.php, and all of my other pages change automatically.
The code which is actually sent to the browser to be displayed is standard HTML. No CSS. So it works perfectly in Amiga browsers.
CSS = pointless.

PHP requires an access to server side things and all users can't afford that or lack coding skills.

True, but most web hosts provide PHP services [EDIT] as standard [/EDIT], and TBH PHP isn't that difficult if you just want to set some variables and echo their values to the browser to help you get a consistent style.

Still, embedding style into HTML documents have been deprecated for years and Amiga is only platform lacking CSS support now. The world has been using CSS almost 10 years now.
And like I wrote earlier, XML support is also highly appreciated.
-
As soon as My A1200T is repaired i'm going to buy this one!
altough the browser is not 100% up to date. just want to show my support for the great effort the ibrowse dev team is putting in this product.
Thank you guys!!
-
i must say the 2.4 demo loads much faster then 2.3
so far its lookig very good
-
Yes, it much faster here as well. Java does not hardly ever time out. You can actually look at E-Bay pages now. (Still don't format right). Its a good upgrade, I hope we make it to version 3.0 some day.

Ibrowser 2.4 worth 15 eur!!
IB now is a good browser, but lacks some feature like CSS2, full support of java e javascript.
Flashplugin is quite good, but not support audio or complex flash cartoon.
On Windows, linux, MacOS, BeOS, SmartPhone and mobile..browser are free and yuo can surf anywhere with full features on.

Thanks for let we know Seiya!
We didn't knew it... thanks again :-/
