Hi,
I've bought a 'Phase 5 Cyberstorm PPC 604e with 233Mhz 060/50 and Ultra Wide SCSI' and a 'Cybervsion 64/3D' graphics card. Can I run OS4 in my A4000 using these please? Is any additional hardware needed? And can I buy OS4 from somewhere right now?
@ Motorollin
You were right that the people here are incredibly helpful. The links and information here are priceless. I hope the A4000 serves you as well as she did me mate. I was delighted to read in your message that you "couldn't be happier with it". Merry Xmas!

Hello mate. Glad to see you signed up :-)
To answer your question, only the Beta version of OS4 (which is not available to the public) will run on a PPC board. A better option would be MorphOS PowerUP, which will install and run quite well on your A4000.

Yep, that system should run MorphOS. When it is finally released, OS4 should work as well.
-
I thought MorphOS needed the CybervisionPPC or PCI-based cards?
-
No, since the latest update it works also with CV/64, CV64/3D and PIV.

Oooooooo, that means I, Mr X-ray can try it now.
Do I still need to have the Amiga online though? Because I don't have that capability at the moment.
-
If you want to register, yes. Otherwise the timeout will come after 2 hours.

@ DJBase
And is it easy for a noob like me to install and use?
-
Well, for me it was easy and normally it should be easy for everyone else as long as you have the right hardware.
-
Thanks everyone,
WoW! A completely different OS to try in my A4000 Desktop.
Xmas has really arrived :-)
Hope you all have a great one!

P.S.
Does MorphOS have its own versions of the video player FroggerNG, ShowPPC for pix and AmigaAmp for MP3 playback etc?
What other great programs have been made for it?

MPlayer, ShowGirls, and AmiNetRadio are popular alternatives to those programs. I believe there is a MOS build of Frogger as well, but I don't know how up to date it is.

Unfortunately, there's no centralized home for MorphOS software. Bits and pieces are scattered around Aminet, Morphzone.org, Pegasos.org, and Pegasosforum.de. There was a great list of software at wikipeg.org, but it seems to have been removed at the moment. Maybe it'll return when their server move is complete.

damn! that is a mighty fine amiga 4000 you got there! as for aos 4 i wouldn't hold out on it getting released. i remember someone or something on amigaworld saying it was getting released in the 1st quarter of 2003.... of course that was bs. i wouldn't be surprised if it didn't even exist.

Yeah I would try MorphOS PowerUP its looks great!
The pegasos II MorphOS 1.45 is brilliant.
