I wrote an Aminet game for A1200/4000 but Aminet web uploading is broken.
So I need a way to try to upload it via FTP.
Has anyone ever used FTP on XP?
Which FREE FTP client should I try?
I don't want to infect my poor computer.

Hi,
You could always use the basic command-line FTP client that's included with XP.
Or, if you want something GUI-based, use FileZilla (http://filezilla.sourceforge.net/).

Maybe give Filezilla a try... Its free and open source! Ive never used it myself but it looks good...
FileZilla (http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=21558)
EDIT: Gahhhh! Beaten to it...
 :-D

FTP Explorer
WSGet
Also. IE6+ supports FTP via the browser...in a folder view.
-
If you're willing to spend money, the PC version of DOpus (http://www.gpsoft.com.au) is excellent.
-
I think IE itself acts an FTP client.
I usually go to my site by doing a ftp://ftp.mysite.com
A windows comes up that says "You cannot access this folder"
Then I go up to "File" and select "Login As", put in my user name and password and then I can drag and drop files.
Maybe you could do a similar things with ftp://aminet.net ??
Or you could always install WinUAE, there are LOTS of good spyware free FTP clients out there for Amiga;-) We may not have the browser, but if you need ftp we own that! Even if you want to mount FTP as a drive! You have to pay $70 to do that in Windows.

http://www.oldversion.com/
Has a few spyware free FTP clients.
Check towards the bottom. WS_FTP LE is shareware.
That being said, the Windows built in CLI FTP client is
fine, you'd just need to learn a few commands.

In order to upload to the Aminet, go to ftp://main.aminet.net/new/ in Internet Explorer (Firefox doesn't support uploads although it will do FTP downloads just fine) go to the file menu, select "log in as" and type in anonymous as user name and your email address as password (or better yet type your email address in notepad and copy and paste so you can see what you're typing ;-) ). You should be able to do drag and drop from there. (I haven't uploaded anything to the Aminet just yet so this part is untested.)

I can grok the notion of:
1.AmigaShell> TYPE filename.txt > SPEAK:
But how and what do you mount "FTP" as a device? It's an xfer protocol, though "ftp" is popularly used as a verb, and as names of programs.
Having it as a Amiga device sounds very cool in that very-cool modular Amiga way (like using Parnet to mount your buddy's Amiga's SPEAK: device and make his computer talk trash over the network ;-), but I cannot for the life of me understand the concept of mounting "ftp as a device". Maybe I'm trying too hard here.
Somebody explain this or start a new topic/thread on it?

Hi,
You can get a filesystem driver, like this one (http://aminet.net/package/comm/tcp/FTPMount_upd), that'll allow you to mount remote FTP sites as if they were local drives. Then you can use your favourite applications/tools such as DOpus, Workbench, the CLI, etc, to perform operations on that site's files.
SMBFS (http://aminet.net/package/comm/tcp/smbfs) does the same thing for remote SMB (Samba) shares on Windows and Linux boxes.
I use SMBFS as the main way of getting files from my A3K to/from Linux.
