Title: unarcing .tar.tar files
Post by: dannyp1 on December 16, 2006, 03:03:32 PM
Does anyone know anything about unarcing files with this format?  What I have are a couple of files downloaded from the GVP site that The Amiga Hardware page sent me to.  The unarc that came with OS 3.9 doesn't recognize this format.  I know nothing about files with this extension so any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,

Dan

There is no such thing like a .tar.tar file. This is a flaw of your web browser (probably MS IExplorer). Check the status line before you click on the link to see what the real file name is, then save it with the correct name. It's probably .tar.gz or .tar.bz2.

For me, WinRAR (http://www.rarlabs.com/download.htm) does the trick in Windows.

WinRAR gets confused about .tar.tar files, either. You have to rename them to their real names before it can process them.

I think it's really funny how Windows still gets confused by incorrect filename extensions when the Amiga has for years been able to identify filetypes regardless of extension :-)
