Title: EFIKA running...
Post by: Piru on December 15, 2006, 09:15:12 PM
Got my EFIKA (http://www.iki.fi/sintonen/pics/EFIKA-1.jpg) set up and running Debian GNU/Linux (http://www.iki.fi/sintonen/pics/EFIKA-debian.png).

Nothing spectacular here, but at least the thing is working. Next to some more interesting things... :-)

I think it's kinda cool considering the power consumption. What power supply are you using, Piru?

@ Piru,

Well done.  I'm thinking of putting an Efika system together just to give it a whirl.  I've never used Linux before (so this looks like a good oportunity to start) so how easy was it to set up?  I've built quite a few Windows PCs, but this is going to be a new experience.

Is it likely to make me pull my hair out?

BTW, is this feature of 5K2 noticeable:
===
The 32-bit multiplexed address/data is shared with the ATA Controller and LocalPlus Controllers. However, control signals are on separate pins and only one operation (PCI, ATA, or LocalPlus) can be done at any given time.
==

I mean does your video works good when ATA operation is in progress??

It was quite easy in fact, but I have quite a bit of linux experience.

It might. I'd practive by setting up some x86 debian first (maybe vmware setup?) and learn the basic things there first.

Anyway, here's the stuff needed to get thing going: http://www.efika.info/ (http://www.efika.info/), check the "EFIKA How To Guide". If it is totally cryptic to you then you might experience some hair loss.

@ Piru,

Thanks, I'm stuck at work until Dec 28th.  I'm going to get the parts together and then spend the New Year period putting it together.  I'm curious to see how this board works out from an "amature" point of view and as far as Linux is concerned, you can't get much more amature than me.

Cheers for the link.  I'll start reading up on it and get prepared.  Meanwhile I hope you or some others will post their experiences for others to read.  :)
