Original Post From AW
Dont know if i should post this here or as a news item but i will put here for now.
After working on trying to connect an Amiga A4000 keyboard to a PC via USB a friend suggested making a keyboard from scratch.
So i got my thinking cap on....
I have designed a prototype Amiga USB Keyboard and am getting prices from companies that provide prototype Injection Moulding processes.
There will be 2 versions of the final keyboard Crystal White and Matt Black The keyboards will have the amiga keysets and connect via a USB interface. It will also have 2 additional USB connectors built in, for attaching other USB devices.
As soon as the final prototype design has been submitted i will submit the images here.
I will keep you all informed of the progress of the project as i get to any major milestones.

Update 1
Hi Everyone,
Sorry I haven't posted in a while but I have been moving house and been stressed to the hills...
Anyway I just thought I would give you an update as its been a while.
I have 2 Amiga keyboard that I have ripped the insides out of and interfaced into a USB prototype board. I am now working on converting the serial signal from the keyboard to USB signals so that I will connect to a Amiga USB / PC etc. I had it plugged into my PC and shows up as "Amiga Keyboard HID" but there is still allot of work to be done.
As for the case for the keyboard, a friend of mine got in touch with a friend of his etc. etc. who works for a local injection moulding firm and he is getting back to me with some (special) prices.
I'm hoping that all the favors will keep the price down as low as possible but will have to keep our fingers crossed.
Thanks

This could make a very nice project for everyone interested in getting an Efika (amiga.org - Efika now available from AmigaKit (http://www.amiga.org/forums/showthread.php?t=26043))
Nice idea!

sounds great to me, i'll buy one:)
just keep up the work and good luck!

any news about your project???

I'm interested but I fear the final price will be too high.
An A4000 keyboard with transparent marine blue plastic would be very cool. Specially with the tick and Amiga italic font:)
Wait, you'd need AInc.s approval for that...

i don't agree, but if this is a project to be make, and to stay in the paper, i hope he can choose very colors.

what you mean?

Trademarks and all that...

...or he could leave room in the design, and each user can add his own "Amiga tick" or C= emblems (removed from dead C=/Amiga hardware)... so AInc can't do nothing about it.
I wonder if they *can* do anything about having the USB device identify itself as an "Amiga Keyboard HID"... Would that also be considered a violation of trademark usage?

Brilliant, simply brilliant!
I've been moaning about the lack of keyboards with amiga layouts for about a decade, so I'm likely to buy a bunch when/if they become available :-D

probably no, if you say, Compatible Amiga Keyboard HID.

I'll buy one if the price is under £30, I have an Amiga emulation on my chipped clear blue XBox and the XBox USB hack is easy. :-D
Great project. :-D

Sorry about hi-jacking, but we at www.gameparts.biz have about 8 left of the adapters for the Xbox controller port that gives it a USB socket....

Cheers Lou, nice site by the way. :-D

Yeah, I'd like to buy one if/when they come out too. They'd be great not only for my A1200 once it has a Subway, but also for my PC when running WinUAE.
Steve :-D
