:-?
How can I put the LHA file from Octamed V5 tutorial which is larger than the standard 720kb thrue a FD?
Our friend Jiffy succesfully transported from his computer the 4 files of tutorials. But when I finaly had the time to install them onto my Miggy, I found out the 2nd part was not copied, although the computer actualy prompt it was done!
Is there a way to compress a LHA file (again) on the PC so I can unpack it on the Amiga 1200?
I read once there is a possibility to install another type of FDD (High density Drive?) so the capacity changes from 720 to 880kb. Is that right?
please inform me.
Thanks in advance.

I'm not sure what you want to do here, but here are some thoughts anyway:
1. Amiga floppy can hold up to 880k not 720k / that's the pc capacity of dd 3.5 floppies. So, if you want to put something larger than 720k up to 880k on an amiga floppy you should be able to do it
2. If it's a pc you're transfering the files from to amiga, then, if it doesn't exceed the 720k size too much, you could try to unpack the lha on the pc and repack it with rar at best compression setting. It should produce a smaller file that might fit in a pc dd floppy and then unpack it with amiga version of unrar
3. You can always split and join files, check aminet, there's at least 1 splitter/joiner that works on pc+amiga.
Hope that helped a bit.

The choice is yours:
A: Connect your Amiga to the internet and all ur probs r gone.
or
B: Split the file on the bgcpc. Rejoin the file on the Amiga.

You wont gain anything by recompressing a file that has already been compressed. You can however compress it using ace, rar or similar and split the archive up in pieces, so that you instead get two files that are smaller than 720k.

Okay everybody!
unpack en pack on the pc, put on the amiga??
splitting???joining???
Which program can I use for that? (names please)

Is it possible to format a DD (amiga) floppy to > 720kb?
I read the PC format command line /t:8 /n:90 somewhere here on the Amigasite, but is there also e line for formating to 880kb?

My hazy recollection suggests a search for 'Sploiner' on Aminet.
To format the Amiga disk to 880KB, format it using Workbench on your Amiga (or Shell, if you really want, try 'format ?').
AFAIK, you cannot coerce a PC to read or format an 880KB disk.

Maybe it's not so hazy: Sploiner on Aminet (http://aminet.net/search.php?query=sploiner)

...Unless you have a Catweasel floppy drive controller in your PC.
-
Just use winrar or something and pack it with archive splitted at a size less than 720k and then just copy those two files to your amiga and unrar it using unrar which is probably found for free on aminet

That's not coercion, that's supplementation... :-P

Thanx everybody,
I just got started after years of \not-realy/ using the amiga. (where it actualy was made for)
I upgraded the chipset (3.0 -> 3.1) and bought a 2 GB ext. Scsi HD.
Using Octamed to create musix. My ultimate hobby.
Eversince I saw a friend making music on the Amiga, I got addicted and never looked further. I develope my knowledge thrue this site: Let me say: I went back to high-school. The Amiga College of the World.
thanks and I'll keep in touch....
