Title: AO out of whack?!!?
Post by: Targhan on May 27, 2003, 08:11:10 PM
Earlier today, Wayne called about some missing news topics.  After a few moments of locating missing topics they were put back on line.  Since then, however, I have noticed that various posts are not as they should be.  I.E., forum posts and comments on news items are not in the correct order.

I would like the membership to confirm this before we take any action.  I thank you all, in advance, for looking around.

Yes, earlier, after I had posted to the "Happy
Birthday, A1200!" thread, my message went to
the top of the thread...and then the topic
disappeared from the "Talk About" section
entirely. I can still access the thread via the
search tool, but not directly from the "Talk
About" list.

-edit-

It also seems that the site "time" was somehow
off for a period. Other messages written before
this one are showing up being written later,
although this one was listed at the correct time.

Maybe Wayne just flew the servers through the
Bermuda Triangle...:)

There are some strange instances of replies coming before (in "time" and position) the first post, eg here (http://amiga.org/forums/viewtopic.php?topic_id=8817&forum=1&1).

  :-o  :-?

---edit---

And on replying to this thread, I would have expected it to have gone to the top of the front page, but it hasn't.

It seems like the timestamping of posts are a bit wierd. I posted a reply in the discussion "Problem with XPert Domino" and it wasnt added at the end. When checking the timestamps my newly added reply to a question got timestamped to about 5-10 minutes BEFORE the question I was answering.

After posting some about this wierdness in that discussion I checked the "1200 eide99 problems?" discussion and see that the timestamp of the last reply there is about one and a half hour newer than my reply posted in the "Problem with XPert Domino" discussion a few seconds ago!

Some really weird thing goes on in here, confirmed. A post of mine made it's way to the middle of the thread instead being the last post.

@Targhan

AO sure does appear to be out of whack. I posted a message in the Talk-about forum but it immediately got sent way down the message list :-? .

Yes, this happened to me too in the Carl Sassenrath-thread.

For some reason, the time set for the server was instantly almost exactly 12 hours off (am instead of pm).  This caused all kinds of weirdity.  We're still investigating why this happened, but until it was reset, all entries onto the site were dated 12 hours "before they actually happened", hence news was removed, posts were skewed in the order of posting, and user accounts were a bit freaky (new members couldn't log in until "after" they had created their account.

Problem resolved.
