I have an AmigaOS 3.9 CDROM, but my A1200 doesn't have access to a CDROM drive.
Is it possible to copy the contents of the CDROM on a hardrive or compact flash card, and install from there?
Thanks
Steve

Yes, I installed OS 3.5 via a network adapter, and some other CD stuff via CF. I think it's the most convenient way to go since you don't have a CD-Rom...

I think I'll have to use the HD method, as Ineed to buy a new compact flash card, but I prefer to use it in my PowerBook.
Has anyone here tried installing os 3.9 from a hard drive before?

Hi,
I also did this (via hard drive!) before I got my A3000's CD working properly.
I LHArced the contents of the OS3.9 CD (less the videos and other fluff) from within a WinUAE environment, then copied the resulting file directly to the A3000's hard drive.
This preserves all the protection bits, plus upper/lower case filenames, and also avoids the problems Windows has with copying files called "AUX" (it's an MS-DOS legacy device filename).
Once you've got the LHA file on the Amiga, you'll need to unarchive it, then create an emergency boot disk - which you'll then need to modify so that the right files / assigns can be found.

Hi,
in those days I'm also trying to install os39 without a cdrom drive.
My equipment is:
A1200 desktop + Blizzard 1230 (030'50) + 16MB RAM
A hard disk 2.5" 20 GB
CF to PCMCIA adapter (bought at www.cablematic.com)
512MB CF card
My purpose is to keep the amiga being desktop format but also run os3.9
First I copied the contents of the OS 3.9 CDROM to the CF using a Linux machine, to avoid the microsoft's AUX device issue.
In another amiga, I created an OS3.1 bootdisk with CF device driver and FAT95 lib. (Just take a copy from OS3.1 Workbench disk and delete some utilities to make room for that driver.)
Plug the CF to the amiga using the CF2PCMCIA adaptor.
Boot the amiga using the custom-made os3.1 bootdisk.
Once workbench comes up, an icon from the CF will appear. Double click, look for the installer and run it.
Make the OS3.9 bootdisk with a blank floppy.
Boot the amiga with the just created os3.9 bootdisk and run hdtools to partition the HD.
Then install OS3.9
WOuld be a great thing if the major shops (ASB, amikit...) sold a "No-CDROM solution":
- 512MB CF card with OS3.9 installation
- CF2PCMCIA adaptor
- OS3.9 boot floppy
cheers!

AmigaKit sells OS3.9 installed HD's with the cd-rom on the side. If you ask them they could do that for a CF disk too I think.

My A3000 doesn't have a CD ROM Drive so I linked it to one of my PCs using Siamese and installed OS3.5 from the PC's DVD drive over a serial cable. It took a while, but it worked. I now have OS3.9, but I haven't got around to installing it yet.

You need at least one of the videos in order to pass the license check when installing the BoingBags.

OS 3.9 detects if you use an archive or drawer inside your Miggy.
You could put your HD in A PeeeCeee and run WinUAE with "-disablesafetycheck" in the command statement. And install OS3.9 from your PC, then put your HD back in the Miggy. :-D

Thanks for your suggestions.
I'll try this out as soon as I can either get a big compact flash card or an adaptor to connect the amiga HD to the PC (I do have a 2.5-3.5" IDE adaptor but it broke).
