Title: PAL booter on bootblock?
Post by: TjLaZer on December 09, 2006, 09:09:17 PM
Is there a tool that will write code to the boot block to boot to PAL?  There is "SwitchInstall" on aminet which works great..On WB 1.x !  But NOT on WB 2.x onward.  If I could program I would write such a tool...  I like SwitchInstall but do not know why it does not work on later WBs.

Hi,

Have you had a look at Kill2090 (http://aminet.net/package/util/boot/Kill2090)? This will allow you to reboot the Amiga and force it into either PAL or NTSC.

Or Hackpics (http://aminet.net/package/hard/hack/hackpics) for how to make a hardware modification to do this.

Or HZ (http://aminet.net/package/dev/src/hz) for a very small assembler program to do this (with source) and TINYpalntsc (http://aminet.net/package/util/boot/TINYpalntsc) that does the same thing. Perhaps one of these could be included in a bootblock?

I think all the software-hacks only makes it possible to use pal in wb-screens?

No.... He's looking for a bootblock you can install on floppies so that you have a boot-time PAL/NTSC option.  I had two...  One of which I think was the "SwitchInstall" (which I don't remember NOT working on WB 2, but I'll assume that's correct) and the other was always detected as a Virus by several scanners (though it never seemed to harm the disk it was installed on -- just turn off the computer after you were done with it!    )

I really wish I could remember what the last one was called, and if I ever got either of them to work with WB 2.x.   Of course, thinking about it for a second.... Would you really need a bootblock switcher?  For WB 2+, couldn't you just replace the NTSC monitor device with a PAL one, if you have ECS Agnus?
