Title: Kick 3.1 program for 1200
Post by: a3000 on December 09, 2006, 12:02:56 PM
does anyone know where I can locate a Kick program that loads a 3.1 ROM image at bootup? Or how can we transfer a 3.1 ROM image to CD to transfer to a 1200 that has a pysical 3.00 ROM chip installed.

Thanks but where do you get the 3.1 ROM image? I have amiga foever that should have legal images, but how do you extract "the Rom" to transfer it to the 1200?

In AmigaForever I believe the ROM images are held somewhere on the CD, as individual files (each representing an individual Kickstart version). However, I think these ROM images are encrypted so will not work with BlizKick.

on the amiga forever disk they also give you amiga programs to use on an amiga to extract the rom image.

boot up winuae using 3.1 roms and use that program to extract the emulated rom image.

In Amiga forever you can access the kickstarts plain simple browsing on the emulation drawer.
The drawer it's called rom.

yes those are the encripted roms iirc
to use them in a real amiga with a burned eprom or kicker you need to unencript them somehow. either with the unencrption program or by using the extraction program in the emulated amiga.

IIRC, the 3.1 kickstart in AmigaForever is a modified A4000 v40.68. It won't be a lot of use on an A1200 (scsi.device is different, it wont work with the A1200's IDE )
And burning it to an EPROM won't work either, it'll just do an endless reset loop caused by an illegal instruction that only works with UAE and a valid AF keyfile

well there you go. i never tried it. i figured there was a reason they put it on there with a seemingly obvious way to get it. my 1200 had 3.0 roms but i have one of the earlier versions of af so it wouldnt have helped anyway. my 3000 has 3.1
