Hi
I really need some extra ram for my pc as i believe it has about 112mb?Which of course is gone very fast considering i have xp..
Is there anyway i can find out what ram to buy without opening my pc?
The pc is a AMD Athlon xp 2000+ 1.67ghz if that is any help, cheers.

I would say it is DDR 2100 ,but if you pray real hard it might come to you in your sleep.

If you go to the Crucual website... they have a memory locator.

Hi,
You can try CPU-Z and SIW.EXE they both tell what is inside your computer now, CPU-Z tells the installed memory speed both tell the motherboard model and revision. Hope this helps.

@ Gav
It is likely to be DDR2100.

errr...am i missing something?
athlon xp's pretty much stop at around 400mhz for their fsb...
hence you would want ddr400/pc3200's

I have the same processor in a system and it uses SDRAM, not DDR. You need to know what motherboard/chipset you are using and what the speed of your system bus is (in case it's overclocked like mine).

CPU-Z -> About tab -> Registers Dump.TXT and attach that file for us to see :-)

athlon XP 2000 should have 133 or 266 FSB. The 1.67 should be 133x12.5 clock ratio. If you go into your bios it should say which memory DDR or SDRAM is used. Some older boards use SDRAM. Some use both, and most newer boards use DDR.

You can use upto xp2400 in a old kt133a mobo, which has sdram. If he has such a board, then the ddr ram would not even physically fit.

@Gav: get anything that is AGP VGA (ATI 7000-> , NVIDIA GF2 ->) and you'll get at least 200% graphics speed boost. Check if you HAVE AGP slot on that motherboard... :-)
