My housemate put £20 down to secure a Wii on release. He needs to stump the balance before Friday, but he's having difficulty finding the rent. Do you think the other two housemates (including me) should go three ways with him and buy it, and sell it on ebay and give him his share of the profit to help him out?
Or shall we tell him to just let it go?

Nope. Rent first, toys later. Yall could get screwed on the ebay transaction then you would all be out money.

I take your point - but we reckon we could easily make the money back in a matter of days.
The question is, do we sell it now as a quick 24-hr auction and send it to the winner on day of release, or do we wait a few days (in order for loads of people to rush out and realise they can't get one for little Johnny in time for Christmas) and sell it later? i.e. next week
I know, sly, cavalier and shameless capitalism, but he (and to a lesser extent I) are screwed for cash...

Just do a 1 day auction. I just came from 2 Walmarts this morning 1 hour prior to opening. Both had lines with more people in them than there are units available(50 for 12 and 20 for 6). Some people were there overnight with temps in the teens (F). This is the 3rd US shipment already.
I bought 3 on launch day and make ~$90 on each of the 2 I sold. I need to secure one to keep to give as a gift. I kept one for myself obviously...

Wii now or later?
Depends how long you can hold it in before your bladder bursts :-P
I'll get me coat...
