Here is a picture of the ni-cd battery i pulled from my a4k, and a picture with a new battery from Amigakit soldered into place.

Nice job! I did it xx times myself.:-D
But I can see that the old battery has
been leaking acid on U177.
Is the new battery still recharging?
I'm asking this because I have had several
A4000 mobo's with the same damage on U177.
After removing the old battery and cleaning
the area around it and soldering a new battery,
it wouldn't recharge anymore.
The A4000 I own now, doesn't have that problem.
It's a Rev.D mobo with a coin type battery...

I'll check if it charge, thanks for the tip, I did not know that this might be an issue.
Yes it was very messy around U177.
The previous owner was lucky that this machine ended up here :)
The phono connectors at the back is damaged as well, a wonder that the mainboard is still intact. I'll take som pictures of this as well.
Does anyone have a good tip for a method to fasten the cyberstorm card properly (screw it in place)? I always need to reseat it if I have moved the box.

I used a voltmeter and checked the battery. It has a higher voltage when the computer is powered on, than when its off. That means that it is charging the battery, right?

sure!

Yeahh that's a battery allright !!!! :-D

why don't you just put a lithium battery with the hack, instead of putting a battery that can leak in time ?
-
The old batteries are Ni-Cad and the new ones are NI-MH which are supposed not to leak (I hope)

I am sorry to say that the clock still does not work.
I think AmiDude was right. After closer inspection, it looks like U177 has taken a beating.
Wellwell, I'll have to do with a ntp clock sync on every boot :/
-
Next version of EasyNet (http://easynet.amigakit.com) will support NTP clock sync - you will have free upgrade.
-
Thanks, this was my next question :P
-
Have you checked the continuity of the traces nearby - mine was broken even as it looked OK with 20x magnifier - just a little corroded. An easy job to fix by a jump wire.
-
I will take another look at this, I think i spottet a broken path or two.
But it's not my no 1. priority :) But I hope to get this miggy in top shape (even got my hands on a new empty all-white desktop cabinet on ebay, to replace my very yellowed).

How difficult is it to put a coin battery holder in place of the barrel.
My 4000's clock resets every time I power down, so the "Supposedly" replaced battery is either not recharging, or is just plain flat.
Replacing to a battery like the PC's have would be better. (Coin).

Well, I've seen a lot of pictures of the "coin hack" .All you need is a diode to prevent the computer recharing the battery.
But I like it as similar in apperance as the original.
I have mesured my battery, and I know that it is both charging and have enought stored power. It just does not reach its destination.

True, but that counts only for Rev.B mobo's. Rev.D mobo's
(like mine) doesn't need a diode, because they're not recharging. They left the factory with coin type battery's like the ones on PC's.
:-D
