Title: A1200 Video Setup and Icons Questions
Post by: Oldsmobile_Mike on May 26, 2003, 07:27:06 AM
Hi there,

Well, now that I've got my old A1200 working again with internal deinterlacer and 19" ViewSonic monitor, can anyone recommend some screen modes that would work well with this setup?  Of course NTSC and PAL look great, and Euro36 works fine, too, but I'm not seeming to have much success with other video modes (Super72, Productivity, etc.).  My guess is that they're trying to up the scan rate from 15Khz to 31 via software, when I've already got the hardware installed to do this for me, and they aren't displaying right at all.  So I guess what I need is something that still thinks it's working at 15Khz, but at a higher resolution (800x600 or so would be nice).

Anything available on Aminet?  Or how could I use MonEd to adjust these settings?  I'd prefer not to use overscan.

Also, can anyone recommend software to remove the gray backgrounds from around NewIcons/GlowIcons under WB3.1?  Have tried NoFillNoDraw, but these still leave most of the gray, and the option in MCP just leaves icons with messed up colors.  Blame it on 10 years worth of installing hacks into this system, but the NewIcons preferences program just locks up when I hit 'save' or 'use.'

Well, thank you for all your help.  In the meantime, I'll be out in the garage pulling a transmission.  C-Ya.

What type of scan doubler do you have? On my DCE
version it just passes the other modes through.
Multiscan/Euro72/DblPal should work okay. Super72
probably won't work becasue it has an oddball
horizontal refresh rate (around 25khz I think).
Try dropping the VGAOnly patch in devs/monitors
and see if that does it.

@Oldsmobile_Mike
To get rid of the border and backdrop of your icons, try NewIcons' own option in NIPrefs. If you don't have NIPrefs, download the latest version of NewIcons from Aminet and you'll find it there.

This might trash non-newicon icons such as MagicWB ones, but if you have a consistent system with only NewIcons it should work nicely.

@-D-
You're exactly right, thx for letting me know it's not just me!    ;-)   Nice ViewSonic monitor, it throws up a message telling me what the refresh rate & sync are, I guess it just can't sync down as low as Super72 - but yes, Multiscan/Euro72 etc., work fine upon further testing.  Out of curiosity, are you using a desktop 1200 case?  How did you route the cable?  (mine's just sticking out the side, for now...)

@carls
NIPrefs will load just fine, but when I select any option (save/use/cancel) I get a total system freeze.  Tried running it with nothing else loaded except MCP (which I needed for my assigns) and still got the same result.  Perhaps a ClassAct problem?  Will try reinstalling that one, but I don't suppose you could e-mail your prefs setup?

Much thanks, both.
