Hi all,
I will get a Freecom Traveller FC-TRW-4420 CD-writer with PCMCIA connector soon. Has anyone successfully used such a device with an A 1200?

No

the a1200 PCMCIA port is not compatible with such a device..

Most new PCMCIA devices are actually CARDBUS devices. Amiga PCMCIA was so new at the time, that the "standard" was still evolving. CARDBUS devices are not Amiga friendly, most do not even fit the slot properly.

The Amiga slot is known officially as PCMCIA Type II PC-Card which is analgus to 16-bit ISA.
As already said most new devices are PCMCIA Type III Cardbus which is analgus to 32-bit PCI.
The two systems are not forwardly compatible.
Even if you can find a PC-Card device, chances are there are no drivers.
