does anyone know how to fix a boot problem with a 2000 hard drive. It use to boot, then it was truned on with the hard drive controller being unpluged ( from shipping) and now it will not boot. When I run the hd tools off of the floopy drive, It can't even find the Hard drive. any help would be great. thanks

It sounds like the cable is not entirely plugged in or plugged in wrongly. It is, afaik, possible to plug in the wrong way or a bit to the left or right so that not all pins are connected. At least it is with my a4k.
Sincerely,
-Kenneth Straarup.

Is the hard drive controller card a Dataflyer? If it is you need a couple of files on the drive. If not, what is it?
-
The controler is a trumpcard pro- pcb1000
the hard drive is a quantum 120s. the conections are in and seem right. I've tried reseating the card in different slots with no results. I think the card is good because when I place the auto boot jumper from yes to no, it doesn't even try to boot like it does when it is on yes.

Does the drive spin up?
-
Yes it spins severl times like it is trying to get going. the little hd light even goes on and off with the spinning. It finnaly gives up and displays a screen that implys for you to insert a disk.
-
So, it spins up or starts to then stops. IE. the drive makes noise then stops, it then sounds and feels powered off, is that correct?
Try a another cable if you have one.

I had a simular thing happening to me, my problem was that the drive didn't get enough power so you could also try a different powercable and/or PSU.
Could also be a bad drive... older drives have a tendancy to break when moved around too much.
