Did anyone else notice this (http://projects.powerdeveloper.org/projects.php?pending=558) on the EFIKA Developer Program (http://projects.powerdeveloper.org/projects.php?program=EFIKA)
Jens applied for the program and was rejected....(i think you get an EFIKA board to work with if approved)
Clone-A Amiga chipset on Efika-compatible PCI card
Submitted by Jens Schönfeld on 25th October 2006
Description
Clone-A implements the Amiga chipset on an FPGA. Efika plus Clone-A could be regarded as a hardware-accelerated Amiga emulator.
Project Status has been rejected.
A bit disappointing!!!!
-
Considering how much he's been bashing Genesi, did he really expect to get something from them for free?
-
what are you saying? that Jens did that to get a 160euro board for free??? are you serious? this is a TOTALLY LAME thought!
clone-a on efika would rock, the Efika people should not have rejected a project like that, and I cannot find any real reason why to reject it... it is not like efika has a 3ghz cpu so it is beefy enough... this could promote BOTH products and give something that no new-amigalike platform has... the original chipset!
-
Perhaps, however, possibly a very good opportunity for Genesi to show a commitment to the Classic Amiga Community has been missed.
If Jens was brave enough to ask, Bill should have ben breve enough to provide
ace

The fact that Jens has been badmouthing the company behind the Efika for quite some while is quite an understandable reason for them not to give him anything. I mean, would you support someone who insults you and your customers?
Seriously, I wouldn't be surprised if he requested a board, knowing his request would be rejected, just to get more fuel for his bashing.

You think so? (http://www.jschoenfeld.de/news/news120_e.htm)

Piru: Yeah, I've seen that page :)

Cor thats a very interesting page, Bill Buck and co remind me of '80's business man' from futurama.

heheh! nice one!
or Mom...

The Clone-A-PCI-card is something still to be developed, so why would anybody (sane) want to use a slow piece of HW with only 1 PCI-slot for that ??? A PC running UAE or Amithlon, a Mac or even a Peg would have been a far better choice.
Why would anybody (as a user) use the Efika's only PCI-slot for Clone-A instead of a Radeon ?
What OS was Jens planning to use ? UAE on Linux ?? There are far better options for that.
So all in all I think Jens laid out the bait and BBRV snapped it ...
-
as far as I can see, you can have on the efika a riser with AGP and PCI, propably more than just 1 pci...
-
OMG!!!11 EV1L BBRV IS DESTROYING A_CLONE!!111 CALL TEHPOLIC!!!
EDIT I mean, what difference would it make if A-Clone was accepted? None. Free HW is always nice but the last time when they were giving out free Pegasos boards for free Genesi was accused for bribery :-)

Spot on.

so, what are you saying??? that bbrv don't believe in behaving like professionals and doing things that would be good for business?
-
I sure would like to have clone-a in my peggy. But was Jens thinking that Genesi would fund his business? :-?
-
There is a whole load of top notch comedy in this thread - lots of people who seem to seriously believe that Jens _really_ wanted an Efika board for free (I'd toss one in the bin) or 'funding' for his project (even more hilarious).
There was a thread (I think on AW.NET) where a load of users gushed about how great it would be to have Clone-A on a PCI card for Pegasos/Efika. Various Amiga fans asked Jens to talk to Genesi about it and he put aside his personal distate and showed some professionalism unlike Genesi in turn. In case you haven't noticed he is (according to the morphos.net page) still owed a not insignificant sum of money by Genesi.
Re: Clone-A on Efika, I'm opposed to the idea frankly, Efika is comically underpowered for it's price like most other PPC/Amiga boards being developed at the moment while the original idea of a mITX-based Clone-A equipped standalone computer is a much more attractive prospect to me for 'hobbyist' purposes.
For me the 'dream' is a cheap low power consumption, low heat production, x86 based mITX board; with Clone-A on a single chip onboard for 'classic' Amiga stuff and modern video/sound onboard for, er. modern stuff. Run Linux with UAE and if they sort out dual booting then AROS aswell. Maybe an A1200 internal keyboard socket aswell since mITX boards can easily fit in the A1200 case with plenty room to spare for floppy, 2.5" HD and slimline DVD.

Marco: so, writing 2 lines of text in an application on the webpage is classified as trying to do business? If he actually contacted Genesi it's a whole other story, but somehow I doubt that he actually did anything else than wrote the extremely short proposal.
-
I don't know what your beef with Shoenfeld is man. Jens made a proposal to Genesi to cooperate - with a company that has fleeced him in the past, and they shot it down because they don't like that he has in the past dared to mention their less than honourable behaviour.
The 'big' (and I use the term VERY loosely) players in the Amiga market - AInc and Genesi are the most laughably unprofessional group of 'businessmen' I have ever encountered. I'd rather do business with Del Boy.
-
Marco: I don't have any beef with him, but I'm not just that convinced that he actually tried very hard. I mean, it's easy to fill in a form on a webpage and then whine about it, but if he was serious about it he would contact the company directly, and NOT {bleep} about the decision in public, whatever it might be.
And posting some bashing on his company website is not very professional either in my opinion. I don't think Genesi are angels either, they haven't really tried to make things better, but Jens isn't in my opinion acting very professional either.
-
I'd have one for me A1 too!
-
He doesn't need an underpowered crappy g3 mobo to develop a pci board.
An enemic ppc g3 motherboard is hardly interesting, now the stuff Jens works on, now thats interesting.
-
Behaving like professionals? You mean like announcing failed "projects" on your website? :)
