I just bought a 3640 to put into my A3000T (Genuine not a desktop put into a case)
When I have the 3640 plugged in I just get a grey screen. When I bought the 3000T years ago, I remember the bloke I got it off saying it used to have one in there but he sold it seperately.
A quick look at some of the numbers on chips such as the Ramsey and DMAC it would appear they could be a little newer though. Is there any programmes out there that can tell you for sure what version chips you have though ?
I would definately like to get this 040 going for some extra speed over the old 030

I hope I'm not being too obvious, but did you check the proper jumper setting on the motherboard?
I don't think they were different from the desktop but I think you have like three jumpers to change.

3 jumpers? hmm.. I thought it was just the clock that needed to be changed from internal to external when changing between 030 and 040.

Sorry if my original post didn't make to much sense but I was pretty tired when I submitted it (I had just finished work).
Since I don't have the manual for the 3000T or for the 3640 I decided to do a search via google for jumper settings, the only jumper I saw that seemed to be of any use was the clock source, J104 I think it was, which I did try changing without any noticable change.
Does anyone know what jumpers need to be changed to what settings ? Is there a nice diagram anywhere of the 3000T motherboard which shows the positions of all the jumpers as well. It's a big motherboard :)

Thanks for the name of a programme I can try, when I get home (yes I am at work again, you have to love 12 hour shifts) I will give it a go.

Just checked out http://wonkity.com/~wblock/a4000hard/mbjumper.html (for the A4000) and it has 2 jumpers to change being the J104 CPU Clock Source and the J100 CLK90 Clock Source. Might help you?

Just had a look at the site;
J100: CLK90 Clock Source
1-2 Closed: Internal (68020/68030)
2-3 Closed: External (68040)
I remmeber seeing a J100 on the motherboard very close to the J104. I will definately have to give this a go. Thanks :)

Chech http://www.amiga-hardware.com for some more detailed information. There seem to be a LOT of incompatibility problems associated with this card.

Funny you should mention the www.l8r.net site since that's where I managed to get the informationthat I needed :)
The only jumpper I needed to change which I wasn't was the one to turn the FPU on the mainboard off and it works fine.
Infact I am using the machine as I type :)
Whilst web browsing is still slower than on my PC it's defintely usuable now whereas before it was quite painful.
