Title: Moodswings
Post by: Speelgoedmannetje on November 16, 2006, 07:06:34 PM
I have been programming in java last week, and I came across very vague instruction behaviour (InputStream.readline() blocking EVERYTHING, despite being threaded). I was looking in the wrong way for a solution (like an observer being blocked by of a mutex and things like that). I was at my parent's house and I noticed I became grumpy. Of course I don't reflect that to my parents (or anyone), other than just asking to be calm and easy because I'm grumpy.
I was grumpy because I was beginning to doubt about my skills.

Eew, a mood swing, it's just so feminine :shudder:

I was at work today, doing a bare metal restore on a Linux box. (I was trying to set up replication of a production server, so I restored a root tarball onto a bare metal box, same partition table, identicle hardware)

I started cursing out loud at the thing, visibly upset.
A non-technical co-worker asked what was wrong. I said something like - Basically, the drivers for the scsci controllers come up in a different order from the rescue cd then they do from the production kernel, and completely make nonesense all of anything that refrences /dev/sdxx, like grub, fstab, e2label, and I need to makeinitrd, blah blah..

She was like ooo.. OK.

I got to thinking, what if this was a real disastor? And, I started doubting my skills you know.. lol. I had a mood swing I guess. I did not cry though.

I'm rambling. I'm killing time actually.. Hey! it's almost quitting time. Ok bye.

Yeah I know... knew already a long time ago.
Gotta use it though.
Next week I'll be using C#.

Well, even my dad, who has designed/made a computer by himself, was puzzled about my problems; obviously he's one of the older generation, not educated in 4th generation programming languages. :-)

And of course I don't cry about this.

I know. Got a friend who was ranting about it. Never used it myself though.

No, there's no programming language like Pascal :-D
(for years I haven't used it, but anyway)
