Has anyone ever had Kickstart 1.3 from an Amiga 500 working ok when plugged into an Amiga 600? I realise there are hardware differences such as the HD controller and PCMCIA slot that make the 600 different from the 500, and I am not concerned about these still working. What I'm concerned about is whether the Amiga 600 will function just as if it is an Amiga 500 in majority of cases, such as with 1.3 compatible games.
I'm asking this because if this works, I will do this, and maybe even have 2.x and 1.3 switchable to have it function as an Amiga 500 and an Amiga 600(HD and so on), and save around three times the desk space!

It works.

I think it will work fine, but have you tried softkicking it?
You should have ~768Kb of free RAM afterwards with plain A600, do you have RAM card?. Some games might require slow-fast ram so they wont work

I finally got around to trying this. Using 2.05 and 1.3 in a ROM switcher. 2.05 still works as it should, but all I get is a black screen when trying to use to the 1.3 ROM. I swapped ROM positions to see if the ROM switcher was ok, and still get the same symptom. The 1.3 ROM is a 315093-02. Is there something else I need to do to get this working?

Early Startup Control?

A 1.3 ROM should work although I've not yet tried it myself. Perhaps you've got a bad 1.3 ROM. Try installing the 1.3 ROM directly in the socket - it might just be a bad connection or something.
A 2.04 ROM from an A500+ is the next best thing for compatibility and definitely does work in an A600.

it works but you lost hardisk and pcmcia
I have tryed that
even you lost the video-composite signal....and
will be monochrome like the A500...anyways an atached monitor on the rgb port will works ok

Works great. I use a kickswitch.

You can se it on this photo.
When i boot on 1.3 it's act like a A500.
I have tested a few games and demos and they all works.
Only problem now is that cpu connection with my apollo card is unstable :( Have to test it more. But have yet have time for it.
But I have not testet with 2mb chip ram installed.

Thanks everyone. I tried placing the 1.3 ROM directly into the A600, instead of into the kickswitcher, and it works fine. Perhaps the kickswitcher is faulty, or just incompatible with the ROM. It's odd, because the 2.05 ROM will work fine in either socket of the kickswitcher, but the 1.3 will not work in either. Ah well, the main thing is I have confirmed for myself that this works. I'll just build my own switcher to do the job...

I myself use a 2.05 and 1.3 Kick in my A600 with KickSwitch. Works just great... only thing is when switching the Kick somtimes the Capslock switch will flash on next poweron for unknown reason... everything works though but I've made it a rule to power off and on again when that happens at that usually "cures it". ;)
