Title: I make game for you!!
Post by: GreggBz on November 14, 2006, 03:04:49 PM
Fellow Amigans,
I am working on a Windows game called Outerspace. (It's like Starcontrol or Starflight)

There is a new technology build. I need some people to test it out and report back to me.

Here (http://www.outerspacecrew.net/)

I will give you a cookie!

Thanks!

Looks really nice :-)

I'm guessing an amiga port is out of the question as my latent psychic ability is screaming at me that this was written in VB.net...?

Correct! VB.NET and it's getting ginourmous.
It's funny cause I'm a Unix admin and I of course, own three Amigas. I feel dirty.

Honestly though, .NET is pretty awsome stuff. And DirectX has a good API and lots of features. If starting over, I would do it still in .NET but perhaps C#

Anyway, I do know a bit of BlitzBasic. I might port the fractal planet generator (a simpler version) to the Amiga.

I never played Star Control..
But it looks a bit like Ascendancy, wich I played a hell of a lot.

Daaaamn! It would be way too cool if it was something like Ascendancy 8-) 8-) 8-)

Anyhoo, it looks very cool 8-)

@GreggBz

Can the interim .net code that the different .net languages compile down to be decompiled back up to a specific .net language?

You might get a C# port that way :-) I imagine going from C# to say C++ is less of a problem than going directly from VB.

Yes, VB and C# compile to the same CLR (Common Language Runtime) so the binaries would be almost identicle.

VB and C# code is very similar structurally. So, basically it's just syntax. VB .NET is a little more wordy.

This is interesting:

There may be some problems with the DirectX stuff, I don't know if that translates dirrectly.

It's usually a bad sign when one can detect the programming language a game is made in.

I, for one, have an allergic reaction to AMOS.

@Hyperspeed

If those cyan file requesters on an orange background make you chafe, then why not lend your talents to helping the Mattathias Basic project reimplement Amos the RIGHT way so we can recompile all of those old programs and get them to work on modern systems using processors with caches and so on.  :-x

if you want to convert VB.net to c# use this transilator:

works like a charm!

ps VB.net makes me feel dirty too, i must wash now, get this filth out of my mind!! :-)
