Title: Selling UAE is this leagle?
Post by: bloodmoney on November 14, 2006, 04:39:10 AM
Found this on ebay, looks shady to me.

UAE and games (http://cgi.ebay.com/Amiga-Emulator-WinUAE-237-Classic-Games-eg-GAUNTLET_W0QQitemZ280045390981QQihZ018QQcategoryZ4193QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item280045390981)

Jesus, 13 quid for a CD-R with some ADFs and UAE? And those ADFs and Kickstart images most certainly will not be licensed.

I would report this to ebay but I can't find how to do it anywhere on the site.

There is a "Report this item" link at the bottom of the page.

The reporting system is not completely friendly to this kind of violation.  The best match I can come up with is "unauthorized multi-game" or something of that nature.

Is there a vigilante group out there which monitors for this type of transgression?  Anyone interested in coordinating or participating in one?

Three hours to go... I doubt eBay will yank it before this guy makes his money.

Selling UAE is legal. Selling illegal copies of games and Kickstart ROM images is not.

Hello Captain... (he cries: Dah,Daradahhh!)

When you buy Amiga Forever you pay the fees for licenced versions of Amiga Kickstarts and OS, and some other sofware included in it.

AFAIK they got a licence to include also UAE in their distro.

(Win)UAE is GPL, you can sell it without any further licensing.

FWIW, this was my question to him:

Quote

Item: Amiga Emulator WinUAE + 237 Classic Games eg GAUNTLET (280045390981)
This message was sent while the listing was active.
loadwb is a potential buyer.
-------------------------------------------------------
Does this CD include the necessary ROM files?

And this is his response:

Item: Amiga Emulator WinUAE + 237 Classic Games eg GAUNTLET (280045390981)
This message was sent while the listing was active.
mogant0 is the seller.
-------------------------------------------------------
yep

So, it's quite evident to me that, other software not withstanding, he is selling illegal copies of the Amiga Kickstart ROM(s).

EDIT: When I just looked, the listing is shown as removed.

It's the 1000's of Roms and copies of Amiga forever being shared on p2p networks which really hurt Cloanto.

It's just a pity you won't find an abuse butten anywhere and these shady companies that make this software regulate sweet FA!

Copying dusty old ADFs over p2p networks is one thing, but trying to sell them for a profit is something completely different in my not so humble opinion.

Just so everyone know "selling pirated software can effect people" I personally don't have a problem with no profit trades.
Here is the company that owns the licence  to Fire and ICE as well as other Amiga abandon-ware.
http://www.jesterinteractive.com/retro/ (http://www.jesterinteractive.com/retro/)
There is a UK company selling these games like hotcakes
and would appear  are not licenced to do so.
I would report them as well If I was sure that they are not
Licenced.
