So I got my A4000 to read the hard drive again. It is booting off it well enough and all that jazz. I can still not get it to recognise another HD. I suspect this is because I've got the jumper settings all wrong. Got to dig the specs out on that one.:-)
I need to know what is the easiest way to tell the speed and processor type on my A4000. Thanks for the time. Once upon a time I used to know a small amount of stuff about the Amiga. I forgot it all after working on PCs for too long.
One other thing. If I have an old IDE internal mount CD-ROM drive, can it be hooked up to the A4000? If not, What is it going to take to get a CD-ROM to work with the thing.

The 'cpu' command from a CLI prompt will tell you the basic CPU type. I am not aware of a standard AmigaOS utility that will give the speed of the chip though. My favorite benchmark utility, AIBB, will state the processor speed once it is started up. It should still be available on Aminet.

Or use WhichAmiga from the famous Piru. Also available on Aminet.

... or you could also run "showconfig" from the shell or from its icon in sys:tools. It wont give you the speed of the cpu but you'll get a bit more info on other chips and boards you may have installed.
