I received my 4000 yesterday and it's booting fine into OS 3.9, The CDROM drive is also recognized and works perfectly.
I was having some issues with a few PPC games so I decide to do a complete reinstall and make an emergency boot disk.
It loads so far and then a requester appears, cannot open "asim_atapi.device" unit 1. then followed my a system request "Please insert volume AmigaOS3.9 in any drive"
As I said before it's recognized in workbench but not from emergency boot disk. I have also tried changing jumpers on the CDROM to no avail.
Both are conected to the 4000 IDE port. There was also two SCSI slave drives on the cyberstorm but I've disconected them for now. Any sugestions :-?

Might be that your CD is bad or your cd-rom is work and the cd isn't recognized in time before it spits out the error message.
Had that problem with my OS3.9 so I made a backup copy of it on a black cd-r which are more "easy-read" because the laser is absorbed better by a blaxk surface so now my probs are gone..this only happened on two older cd-rom's I have

Installed another Samsung CD RW but same problem.
Have just tried with two different original OS 3.9 Cd's and get the same error msg and also with OS 3.5 and install disk :-(
Might be worth a try makeing a copy. How do I duplicate OS 3.9 under windows XP, Just drag to CDRW folder and write?

I think the cdrom icon in DEVS: has the wrong config , that's why it does not work... locate it on the emergency disk, and replace it with the one on your setup that works...

Cheers Keropi, I'll give it a go now..

Success! :-D Thanx for the good suggestions.

so it was the cdrom icon?

Yea well I had taken your advice and looked into the DEVS: drawer, found the file "asim_atapi.device" so copied it over to the emergency disk, rebooted and the CD-ROM drive spun up first time! :-)
