After 11 years of leaving the Amiga behind, I just got a 3000. It has Kickstart 2 roms. I'd like to upgrade it to 3.1.
Will Kickstart roms from a 4000 work in a 3000, or are they incompatible?

They would probably fit without without causing any damage, however there will be problems. You would loose support for the onboard scsi controller in the 3000 for one thing, as the 4000 is an IDE machine.
A 3000 is a nice machine to have and well worth putting the correct roms into. Check the motherboard battery FAST before doing anything else to it :-).

You should really get the proper A3000 3.1 Roms.
My A3000D's ROMS, when I got it, loaded the kickstart from the HDD, by holding down both mouse buttons at power on, you could select at a boot screen 1.3 or 2.0. Then it would boot to whichever you selected. You could also ask it to load from a floppy "Superkickstart Disk".
In experimenting with kickstarts, I found the only versions I could get to work, were A3000 only ROMS. Some bonus code is required by the roms it loads from disk. The bonus code may also be required by the real ROMS, I'm not completely sure.
A3000's need a pair of ROMS and can be hard to find, but I'm sure somebody here will know where to get em :-)
cheers... :pint:

It's not a problem to find them... Software Hut, AmigaKit and the Great American Shopping Mall, eBay, all have them. Thanks for everyone's help.

Fair Nuff, I stand corrected
