Would it be worth me upgrading to OS 3.5?
My system is
AT A1200 (3.1 roms)
4 MB fastram (elbox 1204 or something like that)
SCSI CD-Rom and Zip Drive connected through Squirrel.
510MB 2.5 HD
It's pretty much the minimum specs for OS3.5, so would it be worthwhile or should I upgrade cpu/ram first?

If I were you I would upgrade slightly to be able to use OS3.9 (6mb fastram is the minimum requirement for that.) since it adds more things and bugfixes to the AmigaOS.

You dont have quite enough RAM - a 1208 ought to do it, but I'd recommend going for a 1230 (or even a 1240 if you can afford it) with as much RAM as you can afford . 8MB should be enough for most things, but if you wanna go online get at least 16MB if you can.
the 68030 would be a minimum of 25 MHz (get an FPU - it'll help with JPGs) which is nearly double the speed of the 68020 in your miggy.
I speak from experience here - I have a Towered 1200 with OS3.9: my accelerator is a Turbo1230Lite which will only take the 8MB its got - a bit cramped if I wanna check me mail and read the news !
summary: at least a 68030, at least 16MB RAM, try for something with an FPU.
you may need to beef up your PSU - definitely if you get an 040.

Well I'm a tight git, so has anyone got an accelerator for sale (cheap? ::-) or swap for my 1204 + surf Squirrel?). In an ideal world, I would just get a 4000T and then I'd be happy, but you don't often see them come up for sale around this area :(

Or you could do the sad thing I was forced to do:
Use WinUAE and install OS3.9 on a Windows box. Works really great except it hasn't the true Amiga feeling. I will continue to do that until I got enough money to upgrade my real A1200's or OS4 gets released. Then I get an A1. :-D
(note: I use OS3.1 primarily but use the x86 for webconnection with Os3.9)
