Title: How many Volts do I feed my SCSI CDROM external drive?
Post by: ChaosLord on November 05, 2006, 01:41:22 PM
I want to connect this old External SCSCI CDROM drive to my trusty A3000.

But it does not have a power supply!

The drive is in a hard metal case, weighs a lot and is built like a tank and has Left and Right RCA audio jacks on the back.
It has no identifying markings other than an artsy graphical Logo that looks like the profile of a human face with wind blowing hair back.

I tried to open it up with no success.  I unscrewed the screws but the dam case just won't budge.

The drive is at least 6 years old and may be 16 years old for all I know.

I have several power supplies laying around the house that I donno what they go to.
How many volts should I plug into my CDROM drive?
9 volts?
16 volts?
5 volts?
??? :-?

Couldn't give us a picture of the rear of the drive could you??

Most of the external units i've seen plug into mains power, but yours could use an AC or DC power pack, anything is possible.  A look at the back of the thing would help.

3.5" HDD need both 5V and 12V

2.5" HDD only needs 5V, if I remember correctly.

hi the figure with hair blowing back is a power computing scsi cd.
there are 2 types the very early 1`s used a ac >dc power converter 9volts 1amp.
the later type had the mains kettle type lead as they put the power converter inside.
hope this helps
