Title: Individual Computers A600 accelerator?
Post by: lillPiP on November 05, 2006, 10:47:05 AM
Any news about the A600 from Individual Computers?
Or have I missed something?

From what I have heard the hardware itself is ready, but some logikchips need to be programmed (and the needed code isn`t written yet).

As this is a "just for fun, barely making any money with it" project it went down on Jens priority list a little bit.

Have it the Amiga way: wait an see....

new products delayed
The release of the A600 accelerator and the A500 version of the IDE controller Buddha will be delayed indefinitely. The main reason is contract work that will keep us busy for the next few weeks. Please refrain from requesting any of these products. The production of the new A1200 CPU slot connectors is going according to plan. The new products Catweasel MK2 anniversary edition and the A600 memory expansion are already available at out retail partners.

Still nothing?
Almost 2 years since I wrote this topic for the first time.
Is this a product that never will be released?

It will be released when Jens (or somebody else) has programmed the logic chips. The accelerators themselves have already been produced AFAIK, but the software that drives them is still not ready.

Quite probably. Jen's is not stupid. He knows there is demand. However there is something that he is not telling us. Either there is a problem with the design which must be debugged or there is an availability problem with one of the chips it uses. Or perhaps the amount of work required to put it into production is not the best use of his time, economically.

Hi
I was not around here in 2006. Could anybody fill me in on this project? What would the spec's be on this card??

Someone actually gave me an A600 this weekend that had lived a withering life in a bag in a garage. I have never seen a more evenly bright yellow computer.

Is the project still on???

EDIT: You answered this while i wrote alexh.

Production of Amiga 600 accelerator completed
It took more than two years, but waiting was worthwhile: Our accelerator for the Amiga 600 is completed. The technical details:

    * 68030-33 processor clocked at 40MHz
    * 128MByte RAM option, selectable speed
    * 512K flash-memory
    * PCMCIA-friendly
    * low-heat design

There are some pictures and details here:

It is effectively the same as an Apollo 630 without the FPU but with a slightly better design (physically and logically). The loss of the FPU would have been insignificant!

Pure speculation but it is possible Jens withheld this product because he feared it overlapped the market for Clone-A? Probably not true. After all why sell one product when you can sell two? :-D

Thanks alexh it looks like a perfect addon for the new/old a600. I hope Jens releases it.

His market has been somewhat decimated by the release of LordV's $40 NedoPC 2008 8Mbyte A600 Fast RAM upgrade (http://lvd.nedopc.com/Projects/a600_8mb_2/index.html)
