One of My A4000s won't boot. I've tried reseating the RAM, CPU card and daughter card (although all I could do was push the CPU card down, as I couldn't get the bloody thing off!), and I'm thinking there's a high chance that its the old PSU. The PSU makes one hell of a racket when you turn the machine on, so even if it isn't the PSU causing the problem it could do with replacing. The thing is, all the ATX PSUs seem wider than the A4000 PSU - how am I going to replace it?!?!

Keropi used a Mini-ATX power supply in his A4000. I'm sure he'll pop into this thread, but heres a link:

Quick reply! Thanks.
I'll have to look for one of those PSUs then. WOuld have the added advantage of leaving more space in the A4000.

I've seen a few that seem to have the fan oriented differently, with the fan appearing to point up...I don't understand why, but I guess it would be no good to use on inside my A4000 as it would bugger up the airflow...
e.g.
example (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/200-Watt-AOpen-PSU-FlexATX-Form-Factor-FSP200-60SAV_W0QQitemZ320043374517QQihZ011QQcategoryZ80172QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem)

FlexATX is an entirely different beast (used in the Shuttle XPC, and other SFF systems). You just need a Micro-ATX like here (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Micro-ATX-Power-Supply-Astec-90W-P4-PSU-ATX93-3415_W0QQitemZ200042958625QQihZ010QQcategoryZ42018QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem). You can always take the new PSU out of it's case and put it in the original A4000 PSU casing.

ah, so you found my thread in EAB :-D
well, it works fine, altough I now made some changes...
I removed the side panel , so that it looks like the 1st pics of my post, and I have placed under the mATX psu my 40GB 2.5" HDD converted to UWSCSI-III with an acard7720 card...
HERE (http://server6.theimagehosting.com/image.php?img=12102006(001).jpg) it is how it looks now...

Thanks for all your replies guys, much appreciated.
How have you connected the power switch keropi? Is it a toggle switch at the front of the case wired to the PSU or...?
Also, what Wattage of PSU will I need? I guess about 200W should do the trick?

200W is more than enough, even for a ppc/pci 4000. the original PSU is 145W.
As u can see, I have kept the front part of the original psu, and mounted there on the same holes, an ATX switch (amigakit has them too) and use the same method to on/off the 4000 like the original psu.

Oh yes, sorry, I read that you removed the side panel as 'removed the front panel' for some reason. It will be cool to be able to stick a hard disk under the psu - more space!!!

yes, a 2.5" HD fits easily, but u also need to cut the part where the original psu fan was placed, so the HD cables go from there to the accelerator (IF u have scsi on the accel. like the cs-ppc)
