I recently installed OS 3.9 on WinUAE. Now when I start the emulation, I get a requestor at "boot" time saying it can't find cdrom.device and neither of my optical drives are available in the emulation. I'm a bit rusty on my Miggy stuff, so where is the OS making a call for "cdrom.device" and what do I do the redirect it to the proper device or move the proper device to where it's looking for it?
Thanks,
Sam

You need to use uaescsi.device, not cdrom.device.
devs -> cd0 & cd1 if you have 2 drives, change em to uae device and set their unit numbers.

ok, where does one find uaescsi.device?

Hi. Read the docs. You'll now have to install a filesystem and edit the mount file to use uaescsi.device. I tried AmiCDFS and it worked fine. It's also faster than most other Amiga CD filesystems.

i have read the docs. and there is no uaeScsi.device included with the "Amiga Programs" in the WinUae exe file.
on my real Amiga I used the CD program you pay for (yes, paid for it. forgot the name.) and it worked fine on my 2000 (OS3.9)
but i was under the impression that WinUae didn't need or use any other CD devices. i am trying to keep the wb as clean as possible as i try to get everything working. and I'd like to get PlayCD to work.
i know about changing the cd0: file, but if one dosn't have uaescsi.device in devs, it's a bit silly.

uaescsi.device (you must get the case right, it's important) is resident in UAE. In other words, it's always there. You don't need to find it on disk. Try "Version uaescsi.device" in a CON window and you'll see.

i'm not trying to be dense: from the beginning i have checked ON (in the misc part) uaescsi.device
ok, so in the cd0: file i'll make sure to spell it just like it is in the Misc window:
UAEscsi.device
my problem (maybe?) seems to be that the log (that gets made if i check that off) reveals that the CD is device 0, but inside the emulation, it depends on how i listed it in the Harddrives window.
just slightly confusing.
sorry if i'm just not getting what seems obvious to everyone else.
wb does come up - after complaining that it can't find this or that command.
(ps. love your av)

You must not list the cd drive in the harddrives window.
Either add the CD-ROM drive as CD-ROM using uaescsi.device or add it as a harddrive in the harddrives list. Not both.

thanks for pointing that out. can't understand why the docs that come with winuae aren't very clear about installing.
i ended up using amicdfs and was able to install boingbag2! finally!!!
some things are still a little weird, but things are moving along. thanks to all :-D
