Title: Saw III - Soon to be withdrawn or censored?

What the hell did they think they were going to see, kisses and cuddles like Care Bears the Movie?

Just saw it now, and yes there was one scene that was quite grim. I reckon if I hadn't seen the real-life equivalent of it, I would probably have felt a bit uncomfortable.

I am waiting for the Nanny State to pull the film.

The film makers are rubbing their hands and waiting for the money to a-roll right in I bet...what publicity!

@ Cyberus

Definitely!
In fact I first heard about that fainting business on a South African radio broadcast this morning (I listen to the Highveld audiostream while I tinker with graphics etc).
And it was because of that news item that I made sure I saw the film today (before it gets a few extra cuts or maybe even pulled altogether).

Is the movie any good? Bear in mind I haven't seen 1 or 2...

Ja, I enjoyed it a lot, and I would have enjoyed it even more if I didn't have so much real-life gore experience.

But...there are crucial references to events that took place in Saw I and II, so you shouldn't make number III your first one.
Overall, the original Saw was the best, closely followed by this one. Number II wasn't so good because they made a very bad casting decision with the guy they tried to palm off as a force to be reckoned with, as an antagonist to the evil guy. (Yeah it sounds silly but I can't really describe how they made the casting mistake without giving away the plot).

My advice is to see the original Saw and then decide if you want to see the other two, with the knowledge that number II is going to be a minor let-down and number III is really meaty.

Details??? I can handle reading about this stuff, but I really cannot bear to watch it.

You don't have to be bare mate, it's not that kind of movie  :-P

I can give you details in PM, cos otherwise it will be a plot spoiler. All I can say is that I saw the real deal being done in a hospital and the Saw scene was a reasonable reproduction.

Is it gorier than the first 2 then?  Or are these people just utter wimps :-P

I can't see it getting recut now - it's been legally classified by the BBFC and that's it.  If it were to be pulled then it's up to the distributor themselves (as happened with Clockwork Orange through the insistence of Kubrick and Natural Born Killers).

The BBFC and amybody else can't have a say at all in the matter now.

And with marketing like this you know they're just gonna keep showing it :-D

Makes you think of all the 40s and 50s films with the naff advertising stuff - "We'll pay you $1,000 if you suffer from shock while watching this feature"

--edit--
Gory/horror/sick films mean nowt to me but Care Bears the Movie would be enough to give me nightmares :-D

Ja, it is the goriest of the lot. If you've seen I and II then you should see III.

Meh.

I was slightly disappointed.  Everything was a bit convenient - especially the interrupted talking.  (trying not to give anything away).

The flashbacks were good, one in particular but I think you'll know which one.

I can't understand how people fainted or walked out of this, there wasn't anything in this film that made me or Siouxsie squeamish.  Maybe we're hardened after years of watching horrors though.

It's no worse than Event Horizon, Saw I and II or even Hellraiser.

Saying that, a couple walked out about 10 mins after the chains guy (they walked during the story part in a bedroom).  Another woman walked out a while later (possibly after the first person that was involved after the guy got out of the crate - jeezuz, trying not to give anything away is difficult!).

I would actually say that Saw II was better than III.

@Karlos, you'd be a bit of a plonker if you watched Saw III first.  You'd be better to see them from the start.

Awww, it looks like they edited the one you saw  ;-)

:-(

Time to trawl the net to find out what I've missed then...

I just hope I can find out without getting hit by too many B&Q and Homebase sites for 20" hacksaws ;-)

No mate, I was joking. You are probably just strong-stomached, or we made unrealistic expectations with all the talk beforehand.

I know - I'm not that gullible :-P

And besides, I keep a very close eye on censorship these days (well, every day for the past few years actually).  One of my first visits every day is to here: WARNING - has a link to short descriptions about 4 scenes in Saw III - do not click "Publicists Saw Us Coming" if you want to see the film!! (http://www.melonfarmers.co.uk/).  And I get RSS feeds regularly about BBFC certificates.  I hope that warning did the trick :-D

One of my pet peeves.  If something's cut and I like it, I'll go out of my way to get an uncut version from abroad instead of buying a sanitised version.

I saw Saw I on a DVD, and wasn't really bothered by the gore---if anything, it made me realise that there had to be at least one person in the world with an imagination sick enough to conjure up this sort of stuff. To be quite frank: I thought the movie as a story pretty much sucked. I even left a comment on the IMDB here (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0387564/usercomments-1107). (Don't read if you still have to see the movie.) Saw II was just annoying: more of the same and totally unconvincinv character play. If Saw III is equal to Saw I, then I'll wait for the DVD to turn up at a garage sale.
