I am considering selling my Amiga 1200. It has been sitting in a box unused for nearly 4 years. This is not where an Amiga should be. An Amiga should be being used.
The problem is that I, like many of the users here, have many fond memories of my Amiga-ing days and am afraid I would later regret the decision.
My question to the lot of you is this: Should I sell and, IF I decide to sell, what should I ask?
I have:
A1200 (stock) + power supply & mouse
External HD Floppy drive
2 joysticks
Box-o-software laden floppies (mostly "Backups")
Thanks in advance for the input.

Don't do it. I've done similar in the past and ended up with seller's remorse.

Yep and in ~4 years or so you will be looking on ebay for a rare A1200 and end up paying 3 times what you get for it now!!!! DO not do it.
-
Never ever sell an Amiga, unless you have more than one of a particular model, then it's OK!
Why not fire up the ol' A1200 and play some of those old games again?

I'm with the rest, DON'T DO IT!!!
Unless you really need the money, or you are sure you never want to experience the most fun computer ever made, keep it in storage, or better yet get it out and experience what it is like again. Remember, there is a chance that some new hardware will eventually make it to market for the A1200 that will allow running AmigaOS4, and then you will be wishing you had your A1200 to try it out.
I have never sold an Amiga (yet), but may thin out my collection in the future. I would never sell all my Amigas and be without one. Since you are even asking this question, there must be some doubt in your mind, so I strongly suggest you wait, hold on to your Amiga and then if you get to the point where you are absolutely sure you don't want one anymore, then you can sell it. The price you get is not likely to change significantly so you won't lose money by waiting. In fact if a PPC accelerator that can run AmigaOS4 becomes available for the A1200 in the near future, the price will go up considerably.

...and since it appears to be unexpanded, it won't worth the money u will get...

Primarily because I do not have a monitor or a TV to connect it to...

what, no telly AT ALL ?!?!
-
Not sell it!!!

@mps42
Get a nice cheap 13 or 19" TV from a cheap department store, hook up the A1200 via Composite video and stereo jacks and viola! Nice retro gaming memories!!!
-
Its up to you of course, but you will regret it.
Then after you have sold it sitting there weeks or months after you will think, ohhhhh why the hell did I sell it?
Mike.

Where are you based?

i say dont do it !!!
i did twice and twice i got remorse and had to pay more then what i sold em for :(
-
Oh for Pete's sakes.let him sell it if he wants.
Why ,when I sold a particular rare early model digital transceiver it only took me a few months to start wishing that I had kept it,and a mere 32 years to find another of the same model.
There's a lesson in there somewhere.

Get a cheap tv tuner and hook it up to your pc.
I agree with the rest here.. You will most likely regret it in the coming years.. I myself got rid of some my stuff years back and ended up regretting so badly that i ended up buying an a1200 from a auction site.
I also BADLY regret that i got rid of my c128d with monitor and everything... I have yet to find one of those beasts again :-(

Pacific Northwest of U.S.
Yeah, I've thought about it and I don't think I will sell it. But I DO need to find a better way to STORE it. :)

Hmmmmm.....My house would be a good place to store it.

I disagreeing with everyone since I do not own an Amiga (used to) but will buy one soon. If no one ever sold the system would be in even worse distribution than it already is...
-
Sell it!
Maybe you will miss it maybe you wont. If you miss it get a new one.
-
Considering the basic setup you have to offer there isn't much money to expect... I'd never pay more than €40 - €50 for that setup... and by doing so I'd feel quite desperate...
Yes, the A1200 has gone through something that looks like some kind of reviwal, as of lately... which leads us to the fact that the demand has risen slightly (and thus the prices aswell)... though I doubt it will last forever... and besides, if you decide to sell it, and after some time realise that you regret selling it, you will probably NOT have much trouble getting hold of another one in the coming years.
So... I say... if you want some quick and small cash and know for sure that you wont be using the computer if you keep it, or simply just consider it taking up some valuable space... sell it... if you regret it... buy another one... they are anything but rare... no matter what the prices on eBay looks like at the moment (I don't know what they look like at the moment). If it doesn't take up valuable space and you think you will use it every now and then... keep it.
It seems like you decision is anything but dramatic... if you had been considering seeling a heavily expanded A1200, on the other hand, then I would have recommended you to think twice before making your decision... though...

I just saw a 1084S in our local Goodwill store for $10.00 listed "as-is but works"!
Chances are a Goodwill in your area might have a similar deal!

Is that a reason for selling ?
It will make your amiga more valuable anyway.
