hi all i'm new on this forum but fan of the maiga for long time
i currently have a stock a2000 with nothing in it
but i saw some cool pics of 0s 3.9
i also have a option on a a1200 infinity tower for cheap
what is the best to do? upgrade the a2000
or buy the a1200 tower and go on with that
the tower has a 1.2 gig h/d disk in it and has kick 3.0
all info will help me

Go for the a1200 tower. It has more chip ram and a better gfx chip, which will help alot with os3.9. The hardware upgrades for the a1200 is both easier to find and cheaper afaik.

Get the A1200. You won't regret it. It has a 32-bit graphics chipset and main processor as well. The A2000 has 16-bit Zorro 2 cardslots but the A1200 has PCI expansion decks available for it that will use newer hardware.
You'll have to get a newer set of Kickstart ROMs to use with AmigaOS 3.9 though. (Be careful when installing ROMs in an A1200 since the socket can accept larger ROMs than what 3.1 is contained on.)

ok cool..i go for the tower
but i think thers not much in it except for the h/d
what upgrade can i do best?
i also saw a h/d on amikit with os 3.9 preinstalled, will it boot up instant on it when i install that disc?
sounds noobish but its 13 years ago that i worked on a amiga...and even without a h/d etc...

You'll need Kickstart 3.1 to use AmigaOS 3.9. The A1200 has more than just a hard drive, it has a faster processor, easier to find memory, faster graphics chips, and more!

You should get a accelerator with ram and a 68030 or higher. A cdrom drive would also make things much easier.
And the 3.1 rom set.
But it all depends on what you want to use the machine for besides running OS3.9.

can i add a dvdrom without problems? or do i need a card for it?
and i first want to find out what os3.9 is all about
i never worked with it cause i only use windows machines for 7years now
when i bought my a500 15years ago i only played games on it
did some printing stuff on it but thats it
i have good memorys about that time so i want to do some stuff on it again

Should work just fine with the right drivers. But i strongly recommend that you atleast get the 4way ide buffered device.
I bought this one: http://buy.elbox.com/cgibin/shop?info=510EX4&sid=428ae63d (http://buy.elbox.com/cgibin/shop?info=510EX4&sid=428ae63d)
Which both enabled me to hook up both a dvdrom and a standard 3.5 inch hard drive. It came with floppy disk with drivers that supported dvdroms even with long filenames.
