Title: Q about hama genlock 292
Post by: neuroflip on October 26, 2006, 06:09:21 PM
Hi,

now i'm using a tvbox (component signal) to plug the amiga to a tft monitor. i want to take a hama genlock 292 to get composite video out, to improve the video quality.

i don't know about genlocks and i don't know if this can be do without drivers or it's only a workbench solution... can be used to play whdload games too?

what about this model?

thx!

You must be clear about this.
How is the Amiga currently connected to the TV box?

Component /= composite. Composite is not as good as component.

I haven't got a Hama292 but I have a Lola 2000 that has S-video output. And it doesn't need software, so I assume you can find a genlock to connect between the Amiga and a TV.

What connections do you have on the back of the TV? SCART would be ideal. Do you have that or only composite?

Now i connect amiga with a 3rca cable (composite?) to the tvbox (aver media tvbox7), and the tvbox to the flat svga monitor (lg 1915s).

And i want to test video quality of: amiga RGB23pin -> genlock in rgb 23pin -> genlock svideo out -> tvbox svideo in -> svga monitor

If you do that you will get better quality than what you are getting now.
I don't know if the Hama292 needs software or not. I only know the Lola 2000.

I'm using a 292 for S-Video conversion and it's working great. You don't need any drivers, Amy's detecting and using the genlock automatically. Some games that take over the machine switch off the genlock function, but if your video input is not used anyway that won't make a difference.
The RCA output is composite and that quality sucks. Better use the S-Video output (if your TV supports S-Video) - it's not up to RGB, but it's very usable.

Genlock are usualy driver-less...
for the cleanest picture use RGB directly with the scart, and use a true TVBox that has RGB"s scart input...

E.g. the Cypress CM-345S. (http://www.cypuk.com/cyp_techpage.php?product=26&&parent=0)

Ja, try the genlock first. Some time ago I saw a Lola2000 on ebay for £5 and like a fool I didn't get it, because I already have one. I should have got it even if it was a spare. It is one of the best quality genlocks for the Amiga.

If your TV has Scart, it'll do RGB fine (at least on one of the Scarts) - get the appropriate cable and enjoy the crispiest picture known to man. ;-)

I don't know about what Amiga model are you guys talking but S-Video output can be quite easily added to A1200/A600 using this hardware modification:
