Title: A1200ppc + mediator help
Post by: jimmyboy on October 23, 2006, 01:21:28 AM
Hi all, I got my 1200 a while back. Played with it a bit but never got to set it up properly due to moving house. Now im starting to get a bit of time on my hands and im hoping to restore this classic back to full glory with a bit of help from you good people. I have looked for the answers but also would like reasurance, i dont wanna fry it afterall.

1st the spec
A1200 mobo in a elbox 1200 winner box. A blizzard ppc 040/25mhz    /240mhz, mediator 1200, ide power flyer, voodoo 3, ethernet card, SB card.

2nd the questions
the jumpers on the mediator are set like this-

Memory window

0 mb    *

4 mb    *
        |  <- jumper is joined
8 mb    *

        *
config  |  <- jumper is joined
        *

        *
wait
        *

Is this correct?
Does it matter which way the boards are put in or is there a  most reliable config way? I have Voodoo at top, then empty slot, then SB card, then ethernet card.
I have read in the forums that using the keyboard adaptor stops you getting into the ppc card setup menu (hold esc on reboot) which i now understand is why i never got into it, any work arounds on this?
In the case i have a loose wire which is red and black with a 2 pin female socket. It leads to a device where other cables lead to the case lights and power/reset/turbo, is this supposed to be plugged in anywhere?

Thankyou in advance to anyone who can help in any of these matters. :-)

Hello jimmyboy,
I have my 1200 in a Power Tower, so I'm not sure if the keyboard adaptor is the same, but here is one way to get the ppc startup on my machine. First boot with no startup, then reboot with ctrl-A-A and hold down the esc key, I get the menu.

I have my VooDoo 3 in the second slot, then my ethernet, then my SB, no spaces. The usb ports from the Subway are blocking the first slot.

No loose wires in my case.

    My Mediator settings:
      8mb closed,
      config open,
      wait open,
      wake-up open.
I have an SX so it might be different.

    I hope this helps.
        Xand

Its a red and black wire from the tower LED board. Starting from the top you have the turbo button wire (yellow, black, white) then the next wire is red and black but whats it for?
