Title: How do I get Amiga filesystem recognized by Windows?
Post by: Louis Dias on October 20, 2006, 04:52:23 PM
I have a 2.5" drive (with 2 partitions) with my 3.1 OS installed, but I want to use WinUAE to repartition it and reformat it as a one partition and re-install the OS or atleast run DiskSalv to get rid of my checksum error.

I have a 2.5" external USB enclosure.  Can I get WinUAE to recognize it.  Windows lists the drive in the DEVICE MANAGER but it doesn't give it a drive letter, so I have no access to it.

This drive is from my CD32/SX-1 system.

You should not use the drive in windows, but only in Winuae.. Add the disk under Harddrives -> Add harddrive -> Select your harddrive :)

Its a great way of setting it up, without having to fiddle with old buggy disks etc.

for some reason, it doesn't work
the drive is in the device manager but no drive letter in Explorer and I start WINUAE with the harddrivesafteycheckoff and it only lists my other 2 hard drives

This won't work because there's no Amiga Filesystem driver for Windows. The only way is to use WinUAE.

I have the same problem. I suspect that it simply doesn't work with certain USB adaptors. Maybe you can try a 3,5" -> 2,5" IDE adaptor instead, they're pretty cheap on ebay. It's just a guess that this will work, I haven't tried myself (yet).

Which is amazing 16 years after FFS was developed...

Good advice, thanks!

Yeah, but it's crappy Windows after all. Maybe none of the Amigans wanted to develop for it. :-) There are FFS drivers for e.g. Linux and NetBSD, but I think they're experimental and you can only mount FFS partionion r/o. (At least this is the case when I run NetBSD 3.01 on my A1200.)

linux affs is far from experimental, and it can write ffs partitions just fine.

Click on "Add Harddrive".

done!

Actually, back in the day, I had an external enclosure that did the opposite and I had a second HD but 3.5" attached to my CD32+SX-1.
