Title: Bill Buck / Raquel Velasco Interview - Submit your questions
Post by: Kees on May 20, 2003, 08:54:34 PM
For week two of our new series of interviews, we have lined up none other than Genesi's Bill Buck and Raquel Velasco.

Bill and Raquel will answer a few questions about the Pegasos/MorphOS and the plans for the future.

Isn't this a great place to be ?

Please post your questions here and we will relay them.

Note:  This thread is ment for questions for Bill Buck and Raquel Velasco, not for debate and propaganda. Stay on Topic! If you do not do so, your comment will be deleted or edited as appropriate.

O.k., here are a few:

How is the 403-based STB going ?
What other components will it use ?

Same about the Peg2 ;)

Can the Marvel-NB use a IBM970-CPU ?

When will TurboPrint-PPC be released ?

I see a great initiative here! You're exceeding my expectations with these interviews :-) Great community feedback opportunity!

The question today: what is the state of the Jungle graphics library (preferably for the Radeon)?

(I know that Low Level 3D subsystems (Warp3D wrapper, Rave3D) have priority over Jungle, but having Jungle enables OpenGL game ports to appear much more easily on the platform.)

Can we expect it in a couple of months? (Within say, 3-4 updates?)

Thanks for the answer in advance

(Feel free to make my question shorter)

That would be Raquel Velasco and Bill Buck answering your questions...just ask anyone who has been working with us!

We are looking forward to this --  let's pick up where we left off with Sammy.  :-D

Sincerely,

The G4 upgrade is scheduled for July, and the Peggy-II for Sept. Both will be available for Peg-I users at an upgrade cost. (As I understand it)

Q: If a user upgrades to a G4 card in July, will there be an upgrade offer for him to the Peggy-II in Sept?

1. You announced that you were working on a Superbundle with various authors.  Are you worried at all that this might impact the small market sales negatively?

2. How many employees does Genesi have working towards MOS/Pegasos?

3. Would you support AOS 4 in the same way as you do other OSes (Like AROS)?

*Controversy Alert!!!!! (Mods edit if you wish)*

4. In your emails with SamFace (as seen on ANN) you mention something at the end about many people posting on certain forums on certain threads.  This could be taken that there is some kind of organised posting on forums.  Is this the case or is there another explaination?

Are you going to make a product like Amithlon for x86 machines? (Morphilon)

In the future are you going to offer discounts on your Pegasos boards for people like myself who think they are expensive?

Hi Bill! how are you?
I wanted to ask you when we fianlly have important things we are waiting for from October like:

- 100% support of graphics boards (especially Radeons) alias 3D  drivers, support for overaly, DVD videos hardware decodings, etc..

- JIT emulator finally ready

- TurboPrint

- drivers for decent audioboards

- decent multimedia-files reader and support for crypted DVDs in fylesystem

...and when will we have important portings on MOS like an OpenOffice and a Mozilla that are TREMENDOUSLY NEEDED!!?? :-)
Or have I to continue to use my hated Wintel machine forever for serious things?
Thanks a lot for your sure answer.

Whats the situation with MorphED, ex-GoldED? What I have understood it will be very nice tool, not only for standard users wishing for texteditor, but also as a development-tool for coders.

1. From a business point of view: Why will you succeed? Tell the people who is thinking about putting development efforts towards your platform how their efforts will be rewarded. What future does your platform have, and why (business-wize)? How will you "make the future bright"? Can you give us a hint of your strategies?

2. Tell us a little about the status of the Pegasos Two. Is it behind/ahead the schedule, or is it on schedule and rockin'?  :-P

3. Tell us a little more about the features of the Pegasos Two.

Can you tell me if it gets annoying that whenever something "controversial" is posted by BBRV, all the fanboys blame Bill and never mention Raquel?  After all, it could be either of you posting! ;-)

Both JunGL and the W3D wrapper use Rave3D as
their driver system. Development is indepentent,
but I can't say anything about that. BBRV maybe..:)

There's no need to support the UDF in the filesystem,
the players read dvd directly with no problem.
AMP2 even supports encrypted DVDs.

1. I read that Voyager's author was working on both V and Ambient at the same time... in his house some hundred km away from your offices.

Is that true ?
What about the other people you have hired ?
How many people are full-time working on MorphOS ?

2. Some months ago, you mentionned a games pack (which has been released) and a developpers pack: what about this one ?

3. Where is the Eclipsis ?
Wasn't the Pegasos supposed to be "the platform development for the Eclipsis" ?

@Jurassic

Not knowing what was posted, you were welcome to bring this to my attention.  Music was off-topic.   I'll ask Kees about it.  I have been told that your original post was full of personal attacks on Bill Buck and / or Raquel Velasco.

I'm willing to give both moderator and user the benefit of doubt here.  If it was about music, it was off topic.  If it was personal attacks against Bill or Raquel or anyone for that matter, you knew better.

@all first

You all know I work for BBRV, but don't think of this as anything but
asking the same q of both parties.

@bbrv

I asked Ben Hermans what differentiates his product (AmigaoS 4.0) from
your product (MorphOS) from the viewpoint of someone outside of the
Amiga community.  So, I am asking you the same question:

Other than the trademarks, what is there to differentiate your product
(MorphOS) from Hyperion's product (AmigaOS 4.0) from the viewpoint of
someone outside of the community?

Only people who can contribute something worthwhile to the PEGASOS platform, might profit from certain discounts. Being poor/stingy is simply not enough as I am sure everyone will understand.

I am not aware of any plans to port OpenOffice to MorphOS. Titan Computer, however, is working hard to bring Papyrus Office (http://www.rom-logicware.com/e_start.htm) to the PEGASOS. Maybe you would like to rephrase your sentence and replace "OpenOffice" with "Papyrus"?

@Paul_Gadd

While in Athens, Michael Haggerty convinced Jessica to pose as a rich lumber heiress to help save a fellow M16 agent that had been kidnapped. When a murdered woman was found in Jessica's hotel room, Jessica came under suspicion and was ordered not to leave town. Jessica then set out to clear her name and DID.  :-D

Next question!

P.S.  We will watch the list of questions grow and step in when it looks like it is finished.  :-)

Thanks! :-)
It's from the region of Aragon of Spain. The red army star was added by me ;-D

The old documents show that the first king that used it was Alfonso II (1162 - 1196) (It was probably introduced by Sancho Ramirez, the second king of Aragon because he had good relations with the Pope and the colours of the pope were red and yellow... but there's not documentation about this so we can only be sure about the Alfonso II documents)

Now it is used with small modifications in the territories that were part of the Crown of Aragon: Cataluña, Valencia, Baleares and of course, Aragon.

But a red star would look pretty cool ;-D
A red star without the sickle and the hammer is used in some variants of the flag by independentist groups.

@BBRV
Yes, I saw the web some days ago ;-D Congratulations and thank you, for many people it's quite important to have information in Spanish...

I'm a member of Cuaz and Phoenix, now I'm working in Sevilla so I'm quite busy, but I hope I will be able to continue learning how to code for AmigaOS / AROS / MorphOS soon... I'm quite busy now and when you did your excellent offer I was looking for a job... but Zurt/Antonio bought one peggy, I've used it and I'm quite impressed with it :-D
One of the things I'd like to see improved is Ambient, it would be nice to have something like deficons running and if a default tool can't be found a mui window should appear like in windows allowing you to open that kind of icons with the tool you select ;-)

As a developer I'd like to have a proper IDE and installer for GCC, StormC is outdated with the release of MorphOS and OS4, it would be nice to have one that allowed me to create binaries for both OSes...

About politicians the bad point is that they usually don't do what they promise... but I guess that he will win the elections here so if he wins I hope he pushes forward the open source movements :-)

If you want it sorted then let me know and i will contact NCM and organise a stall for your crew.

Just to clear a few things up, Bowlers is a computer market which will show the Pegasos to hundreds, thousands of people walking by, it is not a place which will be Pegasos ONLY etc, your clan will be the only people there as one of the kind  :-)

If the product is new and is aimed at everyone then shove it in the deep end and let the product come to the users and see how it goes.

Отечественная война...I don't get it, I mean it seems to be an honorarium of some kind from the Soviet era grafted on top of a spanish flag....for what purpose.  Although I am personally not keen at all, on glorifying the soviets, on the other hand, I am aware of the nationalist pride, and heroic efforts that were involved in fighting back the nazi's during the domestic war.

2. How long before JIT 68k emu is ready?

3. How long before 1.4 is ready?

4. Will we be getting Motion Studio software for digital NLE editing on Pegasos with Firewire? If so how long?

5. What is the production status of Peg2 prototype? Is there one?

6. What about TV Card/Video capture possiblities with Peg?

7. What is status of integrating USB Stack and Turbo Print?

Thank you :)
