Hi,
What can anybody recommend for cleaning an absolutely filthy Commodore 1940 monitor casing, and a filthy and yellowed A1200 casing???
I want to return both casings to looking as new as possible, without doing any damage.

Best thing for yellow 1200 cases is strip it down.
Remove the LED's
Put in a dishwasher on a pan wash with a Finish "RED" powerball tablet.
Comes out like its 1992 :-P :-P :-P :-P
Same with yellowed keys.
takes a couple of washes.
Put the keys in the cuttlery tray and put some tin foil over the top with, held in place with an elastic band. Its stops the jet blasting the keys all over the inside of the dishwasher.

As for the monitor.
You want an automotive finishing paste / solution.
Not T-Cut or similar as it contains petrolium, but one suitable for 1-PAK synthetic paints.
If not try an OXY-Clean spray.
You might want to get Paul Gadd to come round and spray some Mr. Sheen on it :-P

I'm tempted to give it a try! I'll be stripping down the casing anyway, so it'll be an ideal opportunity to give it a go! I'll try the keys too! How easily do keys detach from the keyboard?
Anyone got any other cleaning suggestions, especially for the monitor?

Before you go using the dishwasher, read this thread (http://www.atariage.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=26701) on AtariAge.com. It has some tips on avoiding warping the plastic. Admittedly they're talking about Atari 2600 shells, but the idea is the same :-D

Mr Sheen will remove the yellow crap and it does a fantastic job, just spray wait a few mins then wipe.

Hello there. Here is my advice to you. If you can get them,
Try using the following products. Orange Foam Cleaner for
the plastic casing of the monitor and the A-1200.
For the Glass display of the Monitor try KleerVue Cleaner.

No and never will, i have been cleaning keyboards for years using Sheen and never seen it damage anything.
I thought it was meant for polished wood?!
It can do that but Mr Sheen does a hell of a lot more than it says on the tin, it is really a multi purpose cleaning agent like WD40, Mr Muscle etc, just browse the web and see how much wonderful things Mr Sheen does.
Mr Sheen is a product you can trust or your money back.

I use some of these (http://www.karcher.com/rm/cleaning_agents.en.shtml) in combination with one of these (http://www.karcher.com/uk/products/private/products/outdoor/1133101_IntGB.shtml#).
All my electrical goods (HiFi, TV, Cooker, Iron, etc) looked brand new and a good spray of Paul Gadds' 'Mr Sheen' kept them looking that way.

PS: None of my electrical equipment actually works any more as I plugged then in when they were still wet and they all exploded. Still, they did all look brand new before the fire........................................

Talk about hype!!! Are you planning to sell your shares in the Mr Sheen parent company (Johnson if I'm not mistaken) ;-)
