Hello Amigans!
I would like to purchase a good working condition Agnus Chip for the A2000 (same as a500 too) either 512mb or preferbly 1mb version. Need it ASAP for a Video Project. I'm building a LIVE 2000! in an A2000 with a SuperGen genlock! :-o

I can pay Immediately with Paypal. Please help a fellow amigan INTL OK

Make sure you get the right Agnus for your Amiga. The wrong Agnus could destroy your computer as they are not electrically compatible.
-
Also its the Fat angus that was in the A500 & A2000, My A2000 uses the old 512kb (not mb, Im still waiting for that one ;-) ) DIL package version as used in the A1000.
As for one to sell, sorry but nope :-) (All the spare chips I have are for when... I mean if my Amigas break down)
Softhut sell the Fatter Angus for $15 though Linky (http://www.softhut.com/cgi-bin/test/Web_store/web_store.cgi?page=daily_specials/chips_and_ics.html&cart_id=3290233_29534)

It is unfortunate that technical information about the different versions of Agnus is not very good. I helped dispell some of the myths last year but BBoAH is still wrong :(

Oli
Thx for the link, but I dont want to pay $15 for an Agnus when nowadays you can get a whole 2000 for $50! I'm looking to pay max $10 shipped.. there must be someone here withh one for me! Its a fun project and I can post an article on it if someone donates me the chip! ;-)

Wow...can you point me where I can get this whole 2000 for $50??? :-o

Umm.. yard sales? Thrift stores? Classifieds? You'd be surprised.. as stock a2000 (just the box) can be had cheaply.

I've got an old 512 meg (NTSC original) from my A500 that I could send you (if I can find it); let me know if you're interested!

Merc
Yay!
You are my hero! I would love it so i can get this amiga working..
magnetic
I can PM you my info if you find it and thank you!

Ai
Vesalia offers a 8372A-2 Fat Agnus for just €4.90 (inc. VAT, exc. shipping costs). Is this one compatible with the Amiga 500? I know it's originally a CDTV chip.
-
Sure, I'll take a look for it tonight or tomorrow and if I track it down I'll let you know :-)

There would be some compatibility issues as magnetic's A2000 surely is an NTSC unit (and thus requiring an NTSC Agnus), and the Agnus from Vesalia is probably PAL.

Great. Thank you! I'm also looking for a 1.3 Rom for an a500/a2000...
@x56h34
I love your "Bruce Lee" icon. Is there a way I can play this game on my Pegasos? (uae, c64 emu,???))
thx

The 8372A 318069-02 variant was the one that was both PAL and NTSC combined.
As long as that is the right one electically for your A2000 (and I think it is) you'll be ok.
Just make sure you dont have a REALLY old A2000 which takes a DIP (A1000) Agnus
-
@magnetic
send me your snail mail address and I'll post a NTSC 8370 512K Agnus on Monday, gratis....
-
Before you send it him, any chance of a quick photo of it? I am collecting a database of AGNUS types and manufacture dates.
If not a photo, then post the numbers on the top of the chip.
-
Sure, it's a MOS chip 8370 with the numbers 4187 23 below.
-
Thanks (a picture would still be cool hint hint :-))

Well you might be in luck! I'm sure there's one of those kicking around too... I'm going to take a look this afternoon and see if I can track down the Agnus if you still want it, maybe a 1.3 chip will turn up as well.

The pinout differences of PLCC Agnuses are extremely small - not 100% sure if they are completely interchangable though.
However, any 512K/1M Agnus will run in any A500, A2000(B) or CDTV (with proper A19 line jumper setting) - I'm only unsure about the 2M types (A500+, A600, A3000).

I think the 2mb ones are a fairly major undertaking to retrofit. Doesn't mean I wouldn't try if given the chance :-)

Here (http://www.l8r.net/technical/t-agnus-installation.shtml) is an interesting link :-)

I dont believe the information here is accurate.
-
I definitely don't recommend using a screwdriver, those old sockets break VERY easily. If you remove the board, you can push through the holes from below - but CAREFUL!!

Could you be more specific?

It says
you need an 8372A or an 8375 Agnus
That isnt true, you cannot use just any 8375 Agnus. For a start 8372A Agnuses are both PAL and NTSC while 8375 ones are two different chips. Get the wrong one for your motherboard and things wont work.
8375 Agnuses have at least 2 different pinouts. Wrong one and it is BANG you've fried your motherboard.
There is also the 8375B variant which may (but it is not confirmed) be designed for direct replacement on A2000 boards
http://www.aminet.net/package.php?package=hard/hack/A2K_agnus_hack.lha
But I would not try and fit one without much more research.
-
Phew, this is not something I will do again.
I'll rather get myself an a600hd or something like that.
I installed the chip, wich ran, though the screen was aligned wrong and some games didn't run or were running with glitches, or were running too fast (I didn't do the modification mentioned on that site yet).
And I just did the modification, but then the Amiga (Amiga 500) crashed from the beginning; no video output at all. Then I soldered everything back as it was and put the old agnus (8371) back in. Everything's working fine again.
Scratching solder points away from the motherboard, 'tis not something I do regularly, or well, never, I don't know how many etched layers there are on such a board. :nervous:

You need to research Amiga hard hacks, especially Agnus ones thoroughly before attempting them.
You have to know all the niggles about the version of motherboard you have (relevant to the hard hack).
You have to know the hard hack inside out.
If it involves replacing chips (like an Agnus hack) you need to know all the different variants and numbers etc. and be absolutely sure that this is the right one for you.
If you tell us which A500 motherboard you have, which region (PAL/NTSC) which agnus it was fitted with and which agnus you tried to replace it with and maybe we can help?
