Title: Rankings...
Post by: Karlos on October 12, 2006, 07:49:42 PM
I was just thinking; as most of the veterans of the site are in the 4000+ posts bracket or higher, is it possible to have some new ranks above Guru Meditator to aspire to?

Not really an important 'feature', I admit, but...

The rankings are listed in the about us section, so if you guys want to get together and make new suggestions, or raise the limits or whatever, you guys decide and lemme know...

Here are a few I thought of:

Not a Lurker
Oratory Oracle
Limelight Magnet
Purveyor of Opinion
Mechanised Parrot
Bandwidth Bandit

and I reckon that Guru Meditator should be the highest rank, perhaps 15,000 posts.

The truly worrying thing is that I post here *far* less frequently than I used to, what with being permanently busy with work and stuff these days...

-edit-

Can you imagine if KennyR had never left? I bet his post count would have been close to wrapping whatever datatype is used in the schema back to zero :roflmao:

-/edit-

@X-Ray

Nice suggestions, but I reckon "Clockwork Parrot" has a better ring to it than "Mechanised Parrot".

Of course, it would be nifty if we could think of some more amiga related rankings :-D

Some silly examples:

RTG - Relatavistic TonGue
AGA - Always Gabbering Away
ECS - Ever Consider Silence?
OCS - Opinions Ceaslessly Spouted

Anyone who writes over 4096 posts should automatically receive the tile of High Noise to Signal Ratio
 :-)
Title: Re: Rankings...

RTG: Really Talkative Guy/Girl
ECS: Extreme Chat Slut
OCS: Overly Chatty Scener

At 4000 posts you should become an Amiga 4000

Some more:

Keyboard Massager

Virtual Stenographer
Professional Poster
Web Property or Online Furniture

Although by Sir Karlos' definition I am by far a veteran, I personally would like to stay with my current rank for all eternity, or for as long as a.org is online at least :-D Better keep my posts to a minimum.

I'm up to 400+ but I don't really FEEL like a technoid.  That would be better at 1001+ or 2001+ :ponder:

Above 14000, "As One With The Machine" or "Man-Machine" or something aproximating sounds good.

I never bothered to do the maths before. That's quite astonishing :-o

Still, I consider myself way behind KennyR in terms of posting frequency. I was still well behind him months after he left.

We already have that: Guru Meditator.
But we do need more ranks, because there are many dudes (and two dudettes) who have posted a few thousand posts.

I dont think we should modify the existing ranks, people get used to them and many could get demoted. Adding newer ones at the high end is the way forward in my opinion ;-)

30,000+ posts -> For God's sake, get a job...

50,000+ posts -> The reincarnation of Jay Miner

LOL

The only problem will be a mild embarrasment when Blobzie also reaches 9023 posts  :-P

I think we all know where the top ranking should be:

68000+

Quite an arbitary boundary for the get a wife one, eh? ;-)

I have an idea.

I'll just zero out everyone's post counts and let you all fight it out to get back to where you are now  :)

I say we treat this like a video game. You know, when you get the top score, the counter resets to zero.
Therefore in the spirit of all good 80s arcade games, we should hereby reset all Guru Meditators to zero, then introduce the new ranking system.
Title: Re: Rankings...
Post by: motorollin on October 13, 2006, 03:34:36 PM
If you do that, you have to have a counter for the number of "resets" - so you no longer have the goal of how many posts you make, but how many times you can make it reset to 0.

This is getting silly now...

I think the number of your rank should also be a link to the rankings - the server could generate this each day for every Amiga.org member.

Here are the new ranks I suggest:

8,000 - HAM8
9,000 - Fatter Agnus
10,000 - Lemming!
11,000 - JOE PILLOW

It'd be cool for every time your post count ends in #?666 for your avatar to change to a satanic symbol, when your count matches an Amiga model such as 600, 1200, 4000 it would change to a picture of that machine!
