Interesting that the drive would click like that.

No, AROS isn't crap, most PC floppy controllers are.  Okay, not exactly fair, but bottom line is that PC floppy controllers are sector readers, and the Amiga floppy system is a track reading system.  There are numerous FAQs online about this.

Since the Amiga is a full-track-at-once system, IIRC there are no (or very small) sector gaps.  Meanwhile, on the PC there are fairly large gaps between sectors.  This is partly why the PC DD format is 720k while Amiga is 880k.  The PC controller looks for the gaps and cannot find them on an Amiga floppy, then gives up.

PC floppy controllers don't allow to read Amiga floppy disks. There is nothing software could do about it.

This (http://www.winuae.net/files/adfread-1.0.zip) is an approach, but it is a hack, I don't think it should be implemented into a serious software product.

Bye,
Thomas

BTW, AROS wouldn't allow to run 68k software anyway. It's an x86-native operating system, not an emulator.

Like thomas said already, AROS doesn't run old amiga programs. You must use UAE.

But if you're using UAE anyway, why not use WinUAE (http://www.winuae.net) from windows?

It is his daughter's Windows PC, he has a Mac. Besides, he still has the problem of getting his old software from Amiga floppy to the emulation.

Not AROS for sure.

GNOME is a desktop environment, not linux distribution.

If you insist with something ~Windows, Ubuntu (http://www.ubuntu.com/) should be quite easy to set up.

What is wrong in using uae under Aros?. Surely Winuae runs far better but running uae under aros is fun, the only needed is the emu got a bit polished up. The day uae under aros worked well, the day i will probably will less use winuae, because it has a more Amiga feel booting to Aros and then running you favorite apps, demos in it.

For UAE support, we have four open bounties:

1. UAE Integration (http://thenostromo.com/teamaros2/?number=7)

2. Catweasel Driver (http://thenostromo.com/teamaros2/?number=22)

3. First phase of Kickstart replacement (http://thenostromo.com/teamaros2/?number=23).

4. Second phase of Kickstart replacement (http://thenostromo.com/teamaros2/?number=24).

Fair amount of AROS folks share your dream, but AROS is not capable of doing so for now.
