Title: Help! Problems running WinUAE
Post by: Waterland on October 04, 2006, 12:33:19 AM
I decided I'd try to run WinUAE on my Windows 95 Pentium 1 laptop.  It installed fine, but now when I try to run it, it gives me an error code which says "The WININET.DLL file is linked to missing export SHLWAPI.DLL:StrNCatA"

What does this mean?  Is there a place where I can download an updated version of SHLWAPI.DLL?  Will that fix my problem?  Do I need an active internet connection to run WinUAE?  Is WinUAE even able to run on a P1?  Or should I just give up trying to run WinUAE on such a low end computer?

My best guess would be that Win95 is no longer supported/tested with the latest WinUAE.

I am not sure if  SHLWAPI.DLL:StrNCatA is a Win95 file or part of UAE.

If it is a Win95 file then you should be able to get it from a Win95 install CD. There may be other files missing.

Many systems did not have the full install of Windows(any version) especially if set up by a company or school IT department. Such administrators typically install only what they wish the user to be able to access. Many companies stripped out internet ,games, tools, and even backup functions.

Some suggest older versions of UAE or Fellow for older PCs.

SHLWAPI.DLL is already on my system.  From what I've read on the internet, the version number of it has to match the version number of WININET.DLL.  I'll try an older version of WinUAE first, and see if that fixes my problem.

Older version didn't work, I still get the same error message.
