Title: Amiga game music
Post by: chipper701 on May 18, 2003, 10:46:10 AM
Does anyone know the name of the song/composer for the opening theme (guitar solo) for Air Support?

Also was an album ever made for Hired Guns? Great music or who was the composer?

I never played this game but I think it must been saying in the begining of the game who done the sound and music in the game, it usually do so.

I think I have the Hired Guns MED files somewhere...

Probably just on the program disks, because they didn't use an exotic file system.

Paul Summers is the guy who did the soundtrack for Stryx (also by Psygnosis).  Well worth finding on the Aminet, as it is a great .mod file.

I have to say that the music in Cannon Fodder is the catchiest game tune I can think of.  When I was first playing it, I would be humming/singing the tune at work, much to the confusion of my co-workers. ;-)

I used to drive my roommates mad with the music in The Settlers, which I also liked, but not nearly as much as the Cannon Fodder theme.

I don't really remember the music in Hired Guns.  Actually, I don't think I have that game.  I think a friend did though.  Hmm..  Perhaps I'll go looking around.

Yeah, I totaly agree with you... I was a wicked tune.... I think sensible software had some plans to release it commercialy on CD. It's a shame they didn't do it.

This track was also a bitch to rip with Action Replay...
So I got it on mp3 some years ago...
War...never been so much fun...  :-P

The music of Hired Guns is very, very good. Sort of a spooky
techno-classic tune (not very "hummable" though). Combined
with the very polished menues it makes for an excellent
presentation. Don't think there were any music in-game
though. But it's an excellent game, one which I completed at
one point. There was talk about doing a "modern" sequel to it
some time back. Dont know what happened to it.

"Go to your brother, kill him with your gun.
Leave him lying in his uniform,
dieing in the sun"

It went something like that, it's been few years since I last played it.  :-)

I remember as a kid driving my mum completely nuts with the background in-game "music" in Populous!!!

What about the music for Xenon II?  Or Blood Money?

That's what made my pals buy Amigas.

"The biggest un-answered question is... where is the money....."

Classic! :-D

The piano intro to "Agony" was pretty damned good too.

Do you remember the intro anim for I think Air Support with the complete Rip of samples from Top-Gun?  "Voodoo1, Voodoo1, zero nine zero, radar contact 15 miles..."  How did they get away with that!? :-?

I totally have to agree on you about Agony... Maaan, that music (and the graphics by the way) was simply awesome. It was a shame it was so short.

Another tune, which was really good, was the title music for Turrican 2.

Aaah the good ol' days.

I was about to suggest Agony too.  The first time I heard it I was taken back with the quality.

We mustn't forget Z-Out music and there's Beast1 music which has a lot of purity in the samples.  I recently heard a remake of Beast1 in MP3 form and the instruments didn't sound as good as the Amiga original.

Turrican 1 & 2 were both great for music.  I particularly liked the last level of Turrican and the title of Turrican 2.

What about others?  Well Pysgnosis were consistently good, as were the Bitmap Brothers.

Agreed, its fantastic.  i spoke with the author just recently and he told me that wasnt the original version that got released with Agony, the publisher had changed the samples or something, hence the wrong octave/bum note in part of it.

I have asked him if he would ever release the oirginal but it seems that a brand new or the original version may make onto the 3rd Amiga Immortal audio CD, finges crossed :-)

Probably IMHO the best music in any game ever released on any platform, Amazing!

The Turrican Audio CD that Chris released quite a few years back has to be heard to be believed.
All remastered and of very high quality and have also lost none of there original charm, i'd push to say there even better.

Chris Huelsbeck is a great artist. I strongly recommend his site at
MP3 (http://artists.mp3s.com/artists/24/chris_hlsbeck.html)
My favorites:
- "Giana Sisters (Machinae Supremacy Remix)" (lovely tune)
- "Air Combat"
- "Turrican II - Under Water" (superb)
- "Turrican 3 Main Title"
- "Turrican II Title (renewal)"
...
 ;-)

I'm gonna have to get hold of Air Support now.  And The Great Giana Sisters too.....

What about the music to Super Stardust?  That was pretty cool......

He has. It's available on UnExotica (http://exotica.fix.no/tunes/unexotica/index.html), and I think also on Tim's own homepage (http://www.coldstorage.org.uk/).

@Teemu

You our corrrect, never knew he released that version. thanks for the info.
The one that shipped with Agony is much better though, much better piano samples besides the little mishap :-)
