Sadly, I have to move on from the Amiga after 20years.
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=230035779724
-
Dude...
If you have to move on, I advise splitting it up. You'll get more for it.
Are you certain about this decision?
-
Get more than $4,000? I'd like to see that...
-
I thought the same. but yea.. part it out for max money.
-
@Corrie
You'll have to change your sig.
-
Nice system!
You will never get $4000AUD ($3000USD). Split it up and you may get 2/3 that, maybe.
-
Will be interesting to see if it gets sold.
Not seen any like this on ebay.com.au before.
Heh, the $4000 A4000T. Good luck. :-)
-
You can buy it for $4000, or you can pay $1,700 for the following setup.
x2 320gb WD 16mb cache sata drives
x2 xfx 7600GT 256mb pci-e video cards
dual core 3400+ AMD 64
2gig dual channel ram
dvd burner + dvd rom drives.
wide flatscreen
and many more features.....
Makes you wonder if you can't just use Winuae and be quicker.
Yes, this is not to flame, but shows you that at most that amiga can get is $2000 if parted out.

Maybe, but what is a 12 year old "max'd out" peecee worth today? Old PCs are not even worth the effort to heave them into the trash.. The sad part is the PC probably cost a couple of grand when it was new, probably not much less than the Amiga 4000T cost.

Yes I will. But I am leaving the Amiga for good to pursue my family life, so my signature won't matter anymore.
-
Wow..seems awfully pricey. Way too much $$$$ even if you have free shipping.
Where is the Toaster/Flyer, monitors..etc. with this set-up...
Dont get me wrong..it is a nice system :-)...If you get what you want for it..good for you..if not email me I have an offer for ya!!
PeaceOUT..

Oh, how appropriate a title for this scene. ;-)
Almost never see 4000T's in Aus. Good luck with the sale. btw, you probably should put the word 'amiga' in the sale title, as it can be missed in a quick search.

UPDATE
I have had a few questions relating to postage costs. I have decided on FREE postage via airmail to USA/UK/GERMANY for anyone who buys the system. Insurance is an extra cost if required.
-
PRICE DROP BY $500!!!!!!!
INCLUDES POSTAGE TO AUSTRALIA/USA/UK/GERMANY!!!!!!!
-
Try another $1500+ and you might have a chance!
-
You can also give the free shipping to whole EU, there is not much difference between member countries in the postage-price if at all.
-
I will buy it for 2,403.95AUD, including delivery.
-
give the man what he wants dont be a cheap {bleep}s,... you people here should be ashamed of your self. you know you get back twice the amount of what the seller want if you sell it out piece by piece..... the guy is even giving you free shipping!!!!.... this is the worst gang of cheap {bleep}s i have ever seen...

Welcome hamtronix!
About that famous phrase. You see that in almost every Amiga sale ad. I don't get that. Can't you have a family and an Amiga? Also people say that it's time for a new computer; do you need to get rid of the old one? I never threw away any of my computers.
-
You're on drugs c64_d0c, there is no way in hell he will get the asking price let alone twice as much selling it piece by piece!
It's a decade old computer for pete's sake!

Drugs would be cheaper...

I sold an A4000 desktop with more hardware than that for half the price you are asking in 2002. I doubt you will get that much at this late date. Even with the high prices and limited availability, you could build that system for less...if you can find all the hardware.
-
"...if you can find all the hardware..."
----------------------------------------
And that, gents, is the biggest IF around, and the reason why things are expensive.
A4000Ts are rare...
PIVs are rare (well, the owners don't really want to sell them)...
Cyberstorms are always in demand. His has a Cybervision on it.
Look on ebay for the individual components and then tell me how much it would cost in total to build that ;-)
Edit: A4000D cannot be equated to A4000T
-
Finding the hardware boils down to willingness to dig.
I had rather have a towerized and mediated A4000D, personally.
A picasso IV and cvppc is nice...but the performance can be beaten with mediator.
-
What the seller has to comprehend, is that okay its $3500 now after reduction, but What can I get for $3500 alternately.
I built an Intel E6400 for $1500, and throw in Winuae.. and I got a system that will vaporise any Amiga 4000, and yes thats emulated. My Desktop 4000 sits idle now.
I payed less than $1000 for it and its got the Picasso, Cyberstorm (MKII), 20GIG HDD.
$3500 ? LOL sorry i dont think so.
-

A friend of min in college had a slightly modified Buick Grand National that would do an 11.45 second quarter mile, much faster than the occasional Ferrari that would show up at the track. The Buick "vaporizes" the Ferrari. But I still want the Ferrari, tyvm.
-
An Amiga is not an amiga if it is emulated because it doesn't psyically exist, not much technological barrier breaking going on.
An Amiga is the hardware that was made in the late 80's early 90's, that was so technologically advanced, barriers for these machines are still being broken, various upgrades including Mediators and other expansions.

>147GIG Seagate U320 SCSI Hard Drive (34MB/SEC ON THE A4000T)
How do you get 34mb a second from a controller that can do 25mb/second max ?
-
read this thread with interest!
If the guy is no longer in a position to use/enjoy his machine, and the amount he is asking is clearly too much in some peoples opinion then parhapes he might like to 'donate' it to a worthy Amiga cuase? An active user club or something?
Just thought?
-
@whiteb
The problem with an Emulated Amiga is:
1) You cant stick a Video Toaster in it
2) You cant plug a DSS8+ sound sampler on it
3) You cant use a Genlock and make Videos with it
4) You cant plug real Amiga joysticks easily
5) it doesnt feel the same at all
6) a Real Amiga is both the Hardware and Software
Amigas are NEVER about Software alone! which is why the AmigaONE is NOT an Amiga...........I see it an a WinUAE hardware but on PPC.
An Amiga OS like this on some clone PPC machine will NEVER EVER EVER in 3 Billion years compete with Windows or MacOS....EVER! No Reason whats so ever to make anyone switch................and while some may say "it wasnt intended to compete" then Why bother creating Amiga stuff for such a small community? I guess Amiga Inc wants to have the goal of staying POOR!
While I would be interested in an AmigaONE it will never be an Amiga to me.
Amiga Will DEFINITELY compete and have wayy more chances if they created the HARDWARE and OS themseleves to be fully integrated and familiar with its own chips because the same people made it. Thats an AMIGA! anything less is FAKE!
Thats why WinUAE is fake and will never be a REAL Amiga and neither will an AmigaONE.
I am all for an AmigaONE.....dont get me wrong...i will take whatever I can get if it has the Boing Ball slapped onto it (yes slapped on even) but We Highly prefer a REAL Amiga, otherwise I rather stickk to MacOSX ......LIFE is Short! anyone want to play guessing rounds for another 15 years trying to guess what OS or machine to select?
I have wasted enough years on Amiga. LIFE IS SHORT! give me a REAL Amiga and act fast! then I will see reason to own an Amiga again and not see my years wasted. Amigas were good because they worked! I gaurantee that AmigaONE's will need drivers, and drivers written, and incompatibilty issues with gfx cards and hardware..............and quite simply....More headaches! I already have this with WindowsXP, wich is why I am MacOSX guy now.
This should make sence! hmmmmmmmmmmm I am kinda going off on another topic here hehe..............but it needs to be said.
OS4 on a Custom Chipset Amiga please! a NEW NG PPC Custom Amiga or even X86 custom Amiga..........In bewteen a console and computer!.

Except the guy who designed most of the Amigas (Dave Haynie) will pretty much tell you flat out that you're wrong.
Guess who's opinion I trust?
-
OS4 on a Custom Chipset Amiga please!
you already have it. And you had it for many, many years! They are called "dedicated processors" and they do 3d graphics (geforce, radeon) environmental sound (sb) etc. Before them, the cpu had to cope with everything. Sure, these chips don't have the commodore logo or the boing ball "slapped" on them (as you say ;-)) but still the whole concept is 100% Amiga influenced. :-)
-
"A picasso IV and cvppc is nice...but the performance can be beaten with mediator..."
Performance is relative. The transfer speeds on the CV are the best the Classic has attained. The Mediator and the Prometheus are rather mediocre with only around 10MB/s. I remember the Prometheus was just marginally faster, maybe it will get faster when they finally finish the firmware update.
Graphic Blitting and 3D yeah, sure... And I guess transfer speed differences varying from 14-16Mb to 10Mb/s, you probably are more interested in getting a faster GPU on your gfx card.

I think everyone's missing the point here. Whether this kit is worth three and a half grand to you is irrelevant. This stuff is thoroughbred Amiga, not something as good as or better than or pretending to be. What's faster? What's it matter. That's not what it's about.
It's a bit like those other Picassos people sell now and then.
What would Picasso's 'Sunflowers' sell for? Twenty million? Fifty million? A hundred? Well I wouldn't say it was worth anything like that. It looks like a child's daub to me, but I'm not a connoisseur of the impressionists. I like the picture OK, but I'd be happy with a photo or a cheap print of it. That's the difference between those who say 'it's a rip off', 'not worth it' and the few who see things differently.
There are rich connoisseurs of everything and anything these days including Amigas. They don't necessarily chat to the likes of us and frequent Amiga.org, but they know what they like and they'll know the genuine thing when they see it. It's about the genuine thing. It's about provenance, that intangible quality some things have that no modern substitute can ever give. It has love built into it from 20 years' effort and use.
It would take considerable effort (and expense) to put this same kit together today. You would probably have to post wanted ads for all the original hardware and that puts up the price. How many PIVs do you see on offer? One now and then. How many Zorro Preludes have you seen on AmiBench? Not one I bet. How long would you be prepared to work getting it all together? A year? Two years? Five maybe? How much would you reckon your effort is worth at a daily rate?
No, this is an opportunity for those rare buyers of rare things. It's not up to anyone here to pour cold water on this guy's hopes. He's selling part of his life here. Part of himself. And the best of luck to him I say.

I agree with your sentiment. But wasn't in Vincent Van Gogh who did Sunflowers?

A bloo bloo bloo. It matters to anyone trying to do anything professionally, that's what. And that's what a toaster/flyer setup is directed at. Hobbyists interested in frittering around with home video aren't going to blow $3k on proprietary, irreplacable hardware. A $99 Vide-OH! card from CompUSA is going to do them better. A serious professional is going to need things done in a timely fashion, and a 60 or 75mhz Toasterized Amiga, no matter how pure of heart or good the intention, ain't gettin' it.

I have relisted the complete setup for just $2800 Australian. To answer a few questions I seem to be getting, please read the following.
The max transfer rate of the Cyberstorm MKIII is 40Mb/sec so yes 34mb/sec is what I get.
The 68060 I have is the latest rev mask, so yes the ones that the atari users have overclocked to 100Mhz. I chose 75Mhz for sensibility and it works flawlesly. YES it is full FPU/MMU working stable at 75Mhz.
The setup is a big part of my life. The system is quality from head to toe and has been a result of many years of finding hard to get pieces of hardware. So in response to many emails, I will not take $1000 for the lot. $2800 is the lowest I will go, if it doesn't sell, it doesn't. I will have to accept that.
The system will not be split up as I do not need or want left over parts.
As for the cost being more then the latest systems etc. All of us who use the Amiga have paid out money for hardware that is not as fast as PC hardware. Please don't compare it in hope that i will simply give the system away, it will not happen. 5 years ago I could compare faster PC hardware against the Amiga, if the Amiga is so expensive why do we all continue to use it over the years? Because its quality and a cult system.
I hope this answers alot of your questions. Good luck to the Amiga in the future.
-
@Corrie
Stand your ground mate, I'm sure someone will snap it up at its current price. I've come across a few Amiga nuts in my time who will pay pretty much anything for rare Amiga gear, you just have to wait for word to get around. Lets not forget the Amber board that went for over AU$400 not that long ago ;-)

if i was you i would kept the 3500 price tag, its worth at least that. all this crap talk about emulators and compering pc prices with an amiga 4000t here just show what i said earlyer, there is alot of cheap bastadrs here. its a classic and got all the top-notch hard to get pieces, dont listen to them cheap bastadrs... you will get your price, when there is a serious buyer, if he dont show up now keep the system.... you can always put it up for sale again later...

Right on. Most of these so-called "comparisons" are bogus. PCs are the fastest things on earth -- very few things depreciate faster. Amigas have an indellible reputation for quality that cements it is an object of value, regardless of age. PC makers also have a reputation - one that is best summarized in a single word: 'disposable'.

Sure, but not every aspect of the PC world is artless and "disposable". I've been using a stainless Cooler Master case for years, and it's beautiful... much nicer than any of the crappy plastic cases of the 80's. There's a lot of solid function *and* "art" to be found in the PC world, my waterblocks qualify as that and will be useful for years to come. You can buy all kinds of quality PC hardware, if you're willing to spend the money.
That being said, original Amigas are still cool, but it's all a matter of perspective. I use WinUAE 99% of the time I want to play around with anything amiga related (I think it's fantastic, works flawlessly for me... and I could really care less who considers it "teh r33l am1ga" or not), but sometimes it's fun to fire up an A500, as a matter of sentiment. Some people feel the same way about vintage PC hardware, too.
So what is the price for "sentiment"?? It's all relative... some people will spend 20k on a Ducati, when a Japanese bike half the price will (in many cases) blow it off the road.
I don't really think the OPs price is that out of line... it's not easy to put together a fully stacked, mint condition A4000 these days. But no one who would consider buying something like that is doing so becasue it's "better than a PC", or to do professional video. That's obviously ridiculous. It's a heart/nostalgia issue... therefore it'll be "worth it" to some, and not to others. Heck, I just saw someone pay US $250 for a C64 and disk drive on ebay the other day, and I thought THAT was totally nuts...

Why doesnt this cat just use a Reserve price, then when he doesnt get the amount he reserves it for he can (if it is to his liking) offer the system to the highest bidder.

LAST PRICE DROP TO JUST $2600 AUSTRALIAN!!!!
-
Corrie.
Do you not know how to use ebay or something.
[suggestion]
Place it on at 0.99c with a reserve of $2,600 (or whatever you want) that way, nobody can actually win it until you hit your reserve but you will actually get an indication of what people are prepared to pay, and if you really want, you can always approach the HIGHEST bidder (Yes, even on Ebay) to purchase at the highest closing price.
I am sorry, but at $2,600 you will still not sell it with a buy it now. It may very well be worth every cent, but my belief is that even if people want it, they will not hit that "Buy it now" unless they think they are getting a bargain.
You are more likely to get a scammer with the buy it now.., Its like that button is magnetic to them.
-
Thought $2800 was as low as you would go..small tip..list it on Ebay the right way, ditch the Buy it now crap!
