i have decided to get back into the amiga scene now i need help i am thinking of getting an amiga 1200 what do i need to get to enable me to play certain games that are not compatable is it workbench 1.3 or something like that please help also is it worth getting the 1200 any advice would be helpfull as it is a long time since i had an amiga many thanks sean

The A1200 is compatible with 99.9 % of the games
some old games are not compatibles by factory design,also some old cracked games,but for most of them you will find anywhere AGA fixes or hd-installed games that works on the A1200

As was stated in the post above the A1200 will run amost all programs made you can hold dow the two mouse buttons during the bootup and it will give you an options screen to disable items to make the Amiga think its an older virsion.

thanks mate the thing is a couple of the games i am desperate for are not 1200 compatable what do i need to knock it down to a a500 thanks sean

They usually mena not compatible with a Standard A1200
But just get WHDLoad and JST and install tyhe games to harddrive....or download the already HD installled images fo the games and your set like Joan Jet.
I happen to like JST alot...but not alot of Game installs for it.......but WHDLoad is great! amazing stuff!
WHDLoad lets you install games that were never meant to be installed on Harddrive. Get it NOW!

Note that not all games will work on a 1200, even with WHDLoad or a "degrader" like TUDE (a degrader is a piece of software that emulates an older machine). I have no example in mind but I'm pretty sure of that, because WHDLoad does not support every game (but the most famous are supported), and a degrader isn't sufficient for numerous games.
Also there are games that will work, but not perfectly. For example, "Test Drive II" from Accolade has minor graphics problems on every machine that has not the original OCS graphic chipset (the 1200 has the AGA chipset), and no program has been able to solve this problem.
So in some cases, you may find that an older Amiga is useful : an A500, 1000 or 2000 with at least 1 Mb RAM, with the original Kickstart 1.3 (Kickstart is the Read Only Memory) and the original "OCS" graphics chipset.
But overall the A1200 is the best option for gaming, since it is common, compact, and it will let you play the more recent AGA games as well. But for playing the largest number of games, you will need a hard drive and 4 Mb of RAM.

Relokick 1.3 is your friend here mate! This converts the A1200 into an A500 by overriding the ROM and everything, marvellous disk I tell you!

I think that TUDE (http://de5.aminet.net/util/misc/TUDE.lha) is better than Relokick, because it contains both degrading and "kicking" facilities, and a lot of options. Am I wrong ?

I forgot to add that neither TUDE nor Relokick are able to turn your A1200 into an A500 : they will just give the look and feeling of a 500, and a better compatibility. But even that way numerous games won't work, for example "Mortville Manor", which however works on an A1200 with WHDLoad.
